Let's say ALL I wanted to learn was the B-series 5. 9 Cummins. Any of these schools worth the price of admission for just this? I too have heard if you have a basic knowledge, UTI is a waste.

well when i walked thro the diesel campus i did see a couple 5. 9 1sr gen cummins engines mixed in w/ the isx's n14 and others all total they have cat cummins and detroit in there. but you don't just learn about the engine diesel covers the whole truck from transmission to air brakes its the works

I am enrolled in uti in avondale, az. I start in september. Is it really true that is if have basic knowledge it is a waste? They give you an associates degree in arizona.

if you have basic knowledge i think you are going to find that somethings are rather boring and slow becasue you know them speaking from wyo expereince i had a fairly good knowledge but do not know everything and so you do pick up many things while there the other thing at least for wyo is the help you recive during and after graduation in ten years i can come abck and have them update my resume and send out to new employers if i so desire they also ask where you would like to work and try to find you a job there. plus as your graduating the fill and send out 40 resumes and cover letters to possible employers that you have choosen. and lastly if there is anything you get out of it its when you go to get hired and you say i went to uti or wyotech the employer knows that you have a good backgound and expereince already and thats what he wants. so if anything its a resume builder

;) Don't sweat it, you will recive a top notch instructional in Diesel and recive the ASI rating of which employers look for.

I really want to go to WyoTech, but my wife and family is going to be staying in our Hometown Silver City, NM. Wyotech is 14 hours from home and family, UTI Avondale is 5 hours. I talked to my UTI rep and he even told me that with my back ground that I'll be bored at first, but as the classes advance I'll be happier. I don't want to waste my money, but don't want to be that far away from family and new born son. DAMN!

Great

Another Wyo Tech Grad here. Diesel/Assoc. of Applied Science degree. I graduated in June of 2002. One nice thing is its only 9 months and you are done. Just DO NOT live in Tech housing. Rent a cheap trailer in town - much better quality of life and cheaper.

After I grad in 02, I came back to the ranch, and later went on to work for Caterpillar (Butler Machinery) in their truck shop. Paid execllent and a great company to work for. Got sick of living in Rapid City, SD, so I came back to the ranch and started my own shop. Got more work than I can even think about getting done, along with punchin' cows at the same time. There's some things about Wyo Tech that really suck, but I guess you'll find that at any school. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't go to Wyo Tech again. I would enroll at Lake Area Tech in Watertown, SD. All my ex co-workers from Cat went there, and they teach you a lot more in depth, but it is a two year course. One plus to Wyo Tech is the Job Fair - you can secure a job before you graduate. Anyway enough rambling. If ya got any ? about Wyo Tech, don't be afraid to ask.
