I'm looking to either buy or have built a small utility trailer that I can store my camping gear in - TENT Camping- but still be able to use it as a utility trailer as well... . I take my yelloe labs with me and they have a tendancy to get very wet and dirty - so a Camper is out as well as a trailer. Afterall, I know this sounds stupid - but they're along for fun as well... .

I've starting to think that I should maybe consider a trailer that I could haul all my camping gear in - and also have it for utility as well - so I'm not thinking of a trailer that is ONLY used for camping - but I may reconsider if a great design exists... I also think I want a Hard Cover - that I could also use for carrying stuff on - maybe Biclcles etc.

I've got lots of ideas but as usual Once you do something like this you always get better ideas AFTER - you do it. You know, the old - I wish I had done this... ...

I'm looking at maybe a 5x8 or 10 as maximum. Ideas??????

I've looked at this - but man the $$$$$ -

http://www.deluxecamper.com.au/offroad/doubleoffroad/default.htm also it looks like a lot of these exist oversea's where fuel is expensive and cars are small. .

I hear you. I've given it some thought myself. Take a look at a Four Wheeler or 4Wheel Drive and Sport Utility Magazine for some companies that make what you're talking about. If I had some copies here I would post some links.

I've thought about making one, but don't have the time right now. I think some key design elements would be: trailer tires the same size as the primary tow vehicle, pintle hitch, roof rack on trailer top. You're right about the 'I wish I had done this... ' That will be hard to escape.

Why buy it when you can rig it? :)

I've always thought a neat camping trailer would be to use a utility bed (you know how people make trailers out of the rear of pick-ups). I've seen one built new (the phone company had one behind a bucket truck) but if you can find an old work truck cheap, it may be worth investigating.

If you're the creative/industrius type, you might consider one of the old army surplus trailers. They range from about $500 to $1500, and haul anything. You could easily build a rig that fits on top/inside, etc. Just a thought.
