I would be a little leary about sticking my head in front of those headers :-laf
I would rather have one of these babies, a little smaller, a little more "practical" and a little cheaper to maintain. I could probably operate one part time with my annual salary :-laf

Check out the comparison they make between the 5. 9 Cummins and this monster at around the 4 minute mark, kinda makes my ol faithful seem "puny" :-laf

I wonder what the "QSK" designation stands for in the diesel QSK95...

The QS stands for Quantum Systems, Cummins designation for their electronic fuel system to meet the Tier 2 EPA guide lines for '07. The K is the series, like the B is for our Dodges. The smallest K series, the 19 is an inline 6 with the larger K's being v/12 or v/16's The 95 stands for liters. The 6. 7 Cummins is a QSB6. 7.

Prior to this current system was the IS or Interact System, Cummins first EPA certified electronic fuel system required in '98. So the Dodges were called ISB5. 9 from 98-06. Prior to that they were just 4 or 6 B's. 6B5. 9 was natural, 6BT5. 9 had a turbo and the 6BTA was a turbo and aftercooled.

Nicely done Nick.

Nick,

Thanks for reminding me. I used to remember things like that, but my old mind has become too cluttered with too much insignificant clutter. As my wife calls it, "A storehouse of useless knowledge". :-laf

Looking at their applications, the QS engines appear to be aimed at off-road/industrial service whereas the IS engines appear to be over-the-road engines such as the ISB, ISC, ISL, ISM and ISX currently used in our trucks, motorhomes, etc.

Well, that got me to thinking.....

I think you are correct, the QS does apprear to be off-road and the IS are on road. Just checked my '06 and that is shown as an ISB-325 in Cummins.

Took the ESN from our 2010 M2 Parts truck with a "C" series in it, that shows in Cummins as being an ISC-315. That is an EPA '07 emissions engine.

Freightliner build records show it as an ISC-EPA07.

The reason I believe the IS designation for on-road engines is still current is that a member on iRV2.com just had an ISX engine failure on a brand new 2013 Tiffin motorhome that wound up at Cummins Rocky Mountain in Phoenix for repair. Someone missed putting in a piston wristpin retaining clip (circlip)!

Thanks Nick - in amateur radio, we often use "Q codes" seemed interesting to see the "QSK" in the engine designation...

I came across that video a few months ago and many others pertaining to the QSK series. Typical uses they were giving (depending on 12, 16, or 20 cylinder) are off shore drilling, locomotive, marine, and genset to name a few I can recall.

ok... theres too much hype on that detroit thing... Im pretty sure theres nothing there but a bunch of fake shiny parts. Looks like more of an art project.
On the Cummins Hedgehog platform. . I would start quoting specs on how many things are in error with that presentation, but this IS a cummins site and I should know better.
