BIG, are you thinking about buying a new rig? Adding to the fleet or replacing the Dodge? Inquiring minds want to know!
JR I got Pizzed off at our local feed store owner. I don't really buy that much from him but he gave me a Ration of **** and basically told me to head to Missoula to get my feed.
I recently lost an Aunt in Nebraska that left me 5,000 acres that was leased out to a Major Commercial grower. It also had a rail spur attached to it that when I was like 10 years old use to drive my Grandfathers truck loaded with corn to the spur, where an Adult would empty the corn in a Grizzly and let me drive it back for another load, BIG TIME memories for me.
Anyway Nebraska is WAY TO FLAT FOR ME. So I contacted our Lawyers and they got me a FANTASTIC price for the land. I was advised to invest SOON or pay so much it Taxes that it wouldn't be funny. I bought a 2.75 acre chunk of land at home built a hay storage shed and building and RAN THE PXICK Feed store owner the hell out.
The reason for the truck is hay transport. I have rethought the idea of transporting large amounts of hay to the store. The hassle with DOT PUC ICC and a host of other people that have their hands in your pocket when your a Commercial operation & the fact that I would have to do the maint, Driving and all the stuff that I REALLY DON'T WANT TO GET INVOLVED WITH AGAIN. The Father, Son company that hauls our hay caught me looking at Peterbuilt trucks and Trailers and asked if he cut the delivery charge would we stay with him? SO I WILL FOR NOW. I recently bought a Gradall telescopic lift and had a Hay Squeeze added to unload trucks with hay and pallets of sack goods. We went to Calif for that because of all the companies selling equipment rather than let it sit and still be paying for it. Again we got a really good deal on the lift.
I still need a truck for local deliveries not everyone has the desire or ability to haul hay to their house, and I still have to run to the grain mills for sack products IE Chicken, Pig, Horse, Goat feeds. So im still in the market to find a truck for hauling this type of product with my Gooseneck BIG TEX trailer.
Penny and I plan on getting this off the ground (its going great for only 3 weeks in Business) We have a couple that is going to run the business and I can get back into the mountains on my Mules where I belong.
Its actually been fun to get this up and running, I have cut the hay price to the customers almost in half and Im Still making one hell of a profit. A better selection of sack feed and other critter equipment that he didn't carry. Plus the fact that I REALLY LIKE TALKING with the local Critter People, they learn, I learn and everyone is happy. I'm not trying to corner the market on feed, most of us that live where we do are hear for the same reason, the love of the mountains on horseback.
