Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) v10 swap.

how hard would it be to swap in a 12valve to a once v10 96 extended cab 4x4 long bed? it still has the auto trannie but no motor. i think i can get a 95 12valve and transmision i belive for cheep. how hard would it be and what would it intail.

anyone know if the frame is the same? engin mounts? axels? transfer case?

My '95 service manual seems to indicate that the frames are exactly the same. I would take a close look at the motor mounts to make sure of that. The rest of the running gear is the same according to my service manual except for the governor in the automatic. You will need the PCM from the diesel to replace the V10 PCM.

I believe that through cummins you can get the adapter plate, and motor mounts, and it should go in pretty well.

Great! keep the info coming! mabey i will do it. i can get a 96 club cab long bed 4x4 with no motor for $1k. then im hoping the 95 motor im looking at i can get for $1. 5k. would be a nice starter truck for my brother. heck it would be a nice truck period. does anyone know what is involved with the mvd on swapping motors? is it a hard prosses?

check my sig. i have done this already. easy swap, all parts are readily available. just use all 94-98 12 valve parts. mounts exhaust turbo all fits like it is supposed to be there, wait a minute it is. hardest part is looking at a dead tachometer and overlooking the unleaded fuel only label.

If you use the '95 engine and trans then you will need the '95 PCM or a late '94 PCM because the trans is a 47RH. Later transmissions are 47RE. The tach may be a bit tricky because the one for the diesel is different. You will need a '95 service manual for the wiring and the diesel version of the tach and tach pickup. Hopefully you can get that stuff from a wrecking yard.

im planning on buying the whole 95 truck i think its totaled in the front i believe but the motor is fine. can i just put the guage cluster and wiring into the v10 truck. or when i go look at it if the body is in decent condition should i just swap the cab and all? simplicity is my way of life!:-laf too bad it never works out that way.

All of that stuff should fit ok. There are some differences in the wiring so you do need the '95 service manual. The '96 PCM is physically different so if you have the entire '95 diesel wiring it would be a good idea to use it. For example, the V10 does not have a grid heater in the intake manifold.
