Gen 1 Dodge Cab manual trans swap in a 85 cab

I have been around TDR since 02 and have read all the "Ford owns Cummins" rumors, BUT I work for a company that is going to start producing our own line on 3000K pound fork lift trucks.

My boss had the Cummins rep in getting a price on (A)3. 3 liter engines in bulk quantities(20-50). His name was D. W. and while he was waiting for the meeting, he said: "In the very near future, a V6 cummins will appear in the Toyota trucks" My response to that was WHAT... , come on... , no way. He swore up and down and would not back down. Any body hear any info on this? This was not so shade tree mechanic or online forum, this was our Cummins Engine Rep, discussing company memos.

Any feedback or has this been posted and I just missed it?

PS I have been very happy wth Toyota, durability and strength.

I know nothing but suppose it's possible. Cummins may have spent tens of millions of dollars developing a V6 diesel for Dodge 1500s and now, seeing Chrysler/Dodge standing on the edge of the precipice, Cummins could be planning to sell the engine to another platform builder. Dodge could have been forced to back out of the agreement by market (and political) forces.

All the Japanese manufacturers have several small displacement diesel engines that they've been building for markets other than the US for many years. Those engines are tried and proven long ago. The only reason for not importing their own might be US emissions requirements which, presumably, the Cummins engine would be able to meet.

I dont know why ToJo would do that when they have a perfectly good 4. 5L V8 that would meet most of the NA emissions. in the Landcruiser 200 it has a 6 speed auto behind it too. 4. 5-litre V8 diesel engine, producing 282bhp and 478lb/ft of pulling power.

for a reasonable write up on it. I believe the V8 is a twin cam twin turbo (one fro each bank) common rail engine.

Cummins has developed a V6 and a V8 which would fit into a smaller pickup or SUV. Dodge was supposed to put one in their vehicles but that has been put on hold with their situation. It will be interesting to see what it ends up in. Shadrach

I also don't know why Toyota would want to do that. Toyota has been building various sized diesel engines for many years for use in the Asian markets and if they don't already have exactly the engine they want I would think they could easily build it.

There has been a few write ups on how the Dodge-Cummins combination jump started the light duty diesel truck market. I think it may be apparent to other companies(toyota) that this brand of engine and the name it holds may again jump start the 1/2 ton fuel saver truck market. Just my $. 02

If Cummins is coming out with a V6 I would like to know where to get one for my jeep. Any ideas of where please post it.

I would speculate that its rumor. . I'm sure that Toyota has the ability to make emissions compliance without going to an outside source such as Cummins. Maybe its gonna be actually be a Kukje engine???. . I have heard (but can't verify) that there are some ties between Kukje and Cummins. I think Kukje builds some small engines for Cummins that are branded Cummins. The same engine is sold in some of the smaller Branson branded tractors ( but not branded Cummins). Then in the larger Branson tractors, they are actually listed with a Cummins engine, a B3. 3, so I think there may be some "horse-tradin'" goin on there.

That small engine in the branson was a cummins design built by kukje. The three cylinder didn't like cold weather. I was told it was called a cummins in some parts of the world. The 65hp had the B series in it made by cummins and is a sweetheart of a engine in any weather. I sold Branson for a short wile and we used a 65hp for snowblowing.

Would it make sense that toyota would use cummins to help sales because product recognition? And mabe something to do with import fees? I'll drive a dodge.
