600 Injector/Knock Question

I am thinking of trying this combo, And have several questions. How will this combo do with my current mods+ Proguard 7 Drop in filter and 4 /5" exhaust? I'm currently on a small budget and this seems to be a good start for me( not ready to change my clutch). How is the prototype B-lite with the exhaust mods coming along? I plan on stacking a TST with the VA and going to twins after I get the clutch upgraded (Money/wife willing ). I am also planning on stopping by Pier's for the mods on my way from AK to FL towing 17k# and need to know what is involved in breaking in the turbo ? Will the turbo get hurt doing this?

What Van Aaken box are you going to stack with the tst? The pressure one I hope. Not sure you can stack a duration / timing with another duration box. Am I wrong?

The pressure box should stack nicely, and BHaner, you are right about the stacking of dur/time and duration boxes they wont work, and even if you did whats the point twins are about the only thing that can burn all the TST's fuel while maxed out!

Yes it is the pressure box that I am thinking about, I am looking for a little more power and I think this would work great. I have heard that the VA box is strong on the bottom end and tapers off towards the top end which is good for towing. I know the TST is HOT(egt wise) so twins are in my future.

If you are using the VA pressure box to cool things down and run the TST on lower settings, then yea, the 03/04 modified will buy you some time before you can get twins. just be aware that the TST fuels very strong down low and is capable of destroying the Piers turbo. Check the posts by AK here -- he is testing the TST with Piers G1 -- which has both the compressor side and the exhaust side modified. Still, the TST has enough to bend shafts and destroy the G1, but you do have more air.

The only concern I have with stacking the VA pressure box with the TST is that both are very strong down low. If you do this, please report on the effectiveness -- your opportunity would be to use the VA on its high settings (strong down low) and cut back on the TST TE settings. If that is what you are after then yea, I'd say you have good potential for success.

you'll have to be very careful with the turbo. this stack and the G1 turbo might be a good combo if you have self controll...

self control?

What is that? seriously though, Initially I am going with just the VA and the turbo and as money permits I'll stack the TST (clutch first) thanks for the input.

oh, well in that case, the 03-04 modified Piers turbo would be plenty for the VA pressure box. maybe not even necessary. No data behind this, but I'm suspicous that the VA would do just fine with intake and exhaust mods, and the stock turbo. That would give you some time to watch the emerging turbo solutions for the TST.

Really, if your intial fueling mod is the VA C3. 1, skip the turbo and to intake and exhaust or muffler, and save turbo dollars unless your gauges tell you that you need more huff. and if you do, get more headroom than the 03-04 modified and consider the G1

I am currently looking for parts to finish my exhaust, it is stock to where the muffler was and it is 5" from there w/o muffler to the stacks. I'm going to upgrade the front portion to 4" from turbo back to the 5". My intake is slightly bombed already, the silencer tube and ring are already gone and the airbox is swiss- cheesed. I am getting a AFE proguard drop in soon. Iwas considering the G1 turbo just because you can't get the EGT's too low in my opinion.

good luck on th exhaust. thats sounds interesting. dern right about EGTs. without going to a $1600 replacement, the G1 is going to be very nice in my opinion

Another option for a turbo to think about is the new super B turbo from BD. comes with 4" downpipe. From what I have been told should perform better than the G1 - Also low $.

Good luck with the mods.

The Piers G1 is a modified stock turbo. I dont think they have set the price yet, but my guess is the $600 region -- $300 a side (they modify both the compressor and the turbine side). Since it is a stock core, no other modifications are necessary.

The BD super B turbo is a new device that replaces the stock turbo and requries an ATS manifold. BD told me $1500 for the turbo and the manifold, and that the turbo is not shipping yet because of supplier parts problems.

good to hear

I am thinking the G1 is about in my price range right now, that is why I am thinking about it. the BD is too much for me, I'll get a B1 from piers before I get the BD in my personal oppinion but thanks for throwing that idea out there Rankram.

Dleno - you better call BD again - the ats manifold is not required.

Just suggested. For the twin setup - yes you need the ats manifold.

The super B also comes with the 4 " downpipe - I think this turbo is a better deal than the Peirs - with the Bd turbo you keep your stock turbo- with the piers g1 you send back your stock turbo, or pay the core charge.

Does not matter to me what you run - just another idea. :)

By the way my stock turbo + 100hp fueling module + 5x5 tst is still holding in & I run my truck HARD. So give the stock turbo some credit.

Also I see you commented on injectors - From what I have seen on this site & others the tst + injectors seem to be a bad combo.

good idea. On 2nd call they told me that the super B is $1177, comes with a 4" aluminized downpipe, bolts directly into the stock manifold and air box, and is not availble yet!

should be an interesting one to watch.
