Hey guys. Finally got my first cummins after about 2 years of looking and waiting. It's a 2000 2500 auto 4x4. It has a van aaken cpc controller. I've searched old posts and looked at va's website, but haven't found the info I'm looking for. What does this box do? I know it's an injector modifier, but is there anything else incorporated like boost fooling? VA's website only shows the smartboxes and all for sale ads just talk about increased performance. Seems like the guys here have seen nice improvements with it but I can't find the info on what all it actually controls. Also saw it online for about $900. Is that what they actually sell for? Any help is appreciated.

The VanAken on your truck modifies the timing on the engine a bit and adds a small amount of fuel. Good box, comparalbe to an Edge EZ. Some say the VA box adds the fuel sooner giving it a bit more torque down in the low RPM range. You box probably does not have a boost fooler. I don't think the VA boxes had boost foolers till about 2002.

Benny,

I have a 2001. 5 4X4 Auto with the Van AAken on it, mine does

have the Boost Fooler built in (wire to the Map Sensor).

I also have a J Hook on it (keeps the waste gate closed longer

for more boost).

This combination works really well for me plenty of power

with excellent milage (20-21. 5 MPG Highway 75mph).

I put a BD pressure loc on the transmission, the Cummins

would drive right through the clutches while towing!!

With the Van AAken you use so little throttle you don't

develop alot of clutch pressure in the transmission and it will

slip under heavy loads.

One thing that you should get is a fuel pressure gage for piece of mind!

There are excellent posts on this site about Lift Pumps and

fixes take advantage of them.

Thanks a bunch for the replies guys. I've been around this site for about 2 years now and have a few more years with diesel experience. This is a fantastic place as we all know. My list of guages is very long and includes transmission temp, fuel pressure, boost, and pyro.

Right now I'm extremely happy with the truck. I have notice I drive around using very little throttle. My on board computer says I'm getting about 20 mpg driving in all these hills and if my math backs that up after my next tank I will be very pleased.

The VA box was a fantastic gift and I never knew much about them until now. Seems I did luck up. I'm really stretching for longevity and reliability with this truck with effortless towing of my buggy and beating a ricer every now and then. I don't drive with my foot on the floor and have yet to open up the wastegate. If it becomes a problem I will modify it later for a little boost. But definately after a few guages.

ceastmen,

How much was that BD pressure lock? I love automatic trannys, but only after I modify them to my liking. I plan now to test out the stocker for what it's worth and get something like an ats down the road. If it wants to slip around when towing I'll have to do some mods right now.

thanks again guys!

Where's a good place and price for me to go to get just a boost fooler and j-hook or elbow?
