VA or EZ for towing

HI guys, new member here. I bought a new 02 ho. this past summer. do a fair amount of towing,Bigfoot 11ft. camper. three horse trailer , around 20,000gvw. Question is,what box would be better for me,VA or EDGE. what box is best for low end?also does the VA come with a boost module?Iknow where too get a edge . where can I get the VA ? THanks very much,Rod

The VA has more low end torque than the EZ



I just sold my VA box last month to a TDR Member



He is now reselling the box





I loved the VA and 2 combo for towing my 10k 5er

The EZ is an excellent towing box. More mid-range power, lower EGT's (when the boost fooler capabilities are used) and even a slight fuel mileage improvement if you can keep your foot out of it. I can't!

This is probably oversimplifying things but couldn't I just drill a small hole in the side of the existing elbow (where the dealer won't notice it ) and have the same effect as a boost fooler?

If so, how big a hole?

That might disable the turbo wastegate, but if you don't have the electronic "boost fooler" module to intercept the MAP (manifold air pressure) signal, the computer will set overboost codes and the VP-44 will defuel to prevent excessive boost. It has to work as an integrated system.

The boost fooler is an integral part of the EZ. You just disconnect the plug from the factory wiring harness to the MAP sensor, plug the EZ MAP connector onto the MAP sensor, plug the factory plug into the other EZ MAP connector and that's it.

Each truck is different to an extent, and each driver has personal wants. I can tell you what I have seen.



With the VA and driving normally for me I picked up 1-1. 5 MPG. EGT with the boost module on was about 50-75* lower than the EZ with the same mods. My engine is quieter than stock at all times. Low end performance is really strong. Power is VERY smooth, seamless really.





With the EZ and normal driving I lost about 1. 5-2 MPG from what I was getting with the VA, so I effectively lost MPG with it. The engine is much louder with the EZ on it, especially on a hard pull. Low end performance is less than with the VA, but once above about 1700-1800 they are virtually the same for power. EGT was just slightly higher than with the VA, but WAY lower than stock. Power seems to "hit" at about 1600-1700.



I really did not care for the EZ after having a VA. I put about plenty of miles on it too, not just a couple day test. If I had not had a VA before I think I would have been very happy with the EZ becuase it does work and add power. Most guys just babble about how great the EZ is, but very few have anything to compare it to. Having the VA before ruined my EZ experience, it just does not compare in my opinion.

I don't run either box right now [shopping for a VA] but I have a very similar report as LSMITH, from a friend. He ran an EZ for about 8 months, had trouble and was able to exchange it, but only a VA [BD rebadge,I believe] was available. For his use,which is similar to mine, towing,hauling moderate loads and snow plowing he is keeping the VA. I haven't driven it, but he claims better low end power with out any noticable loss on top. I'm with Rod, looking for VA dealers. Jim G.

A little off-topic but I would get some stage 2 or 3 injectors instead for the same money. More power across the board. IMHO

With too much low end power be careful if you have an auto as the pressures in the transmission are not high enough to hold it together. The more RPM's the more transmission line pressures. Just a thought.
