I just made a round trip from Salt Lake City to Seattle unloaded, installed 275's, and pulled a 6500 lb trailer from Seattle to Vegas, the back to SLC unloaded. On the way I ran some comparsions between the two boxes. I had previously installed DTT's VB/TC combo.
On an earlier trip from Seattle to SLC I ran a VA at 1925rpm (69mph) for 23. 3 mpg. Retracing the route with the EZ I got 20. 9mpg. Performance differences weren't remarkable.
From Seattle to Vegas loaded, I alternated between the EZ, nothing, and the VA, all at an average of 65 mph. Mileages were 11. 25 with both boxes, 10 without - I was disappointed.
Returning to SLC from Vegas empty, and back to 69mph, I recorded 20. 0 (EZ) and 22. 2 (VA).
Performance with the 275's is very good with both boxes, but the EZ is clearly superior, particularly off the bottom, then over 2000. Any hill requires only a mere tickle of the throttle. If I started at 65mph or getter, speeds were constant and EGT's ran 900-1000. If I was under 65, I could hold or increase speed at 1050-1100 degrees.
Around town with the EZ, the throttle is so responsive it is difficult to keep acceleration within reason. Pulling the trailer, its easy to PO the guy next to you who is determined to not to have you next to him rattleing in his ear. Just tickle the throttle and you can stay right beside him till the next light<G>!
Bottom line - got more pulling power than I can use with my loads, and unloaded is almost too much fun.
