Power difference auto to stick

VA vs. EZ I am trying to decide which one of these will be the best for me. My number one concern is increased mpg and a little more power when pulling. It seems consistant that with the VA most people realize a 1 to 2 mpg increase. But what about EGTs? Do most get about the same mpg with the EZ? With the EZ you get Boost which is a plus. Both seem to give torque and hp increases at the same rpm levels based on their websites. Cost seems about the same. Any major differences that I should watch out for? I know these questions are asked a lot but using the search I couldn't find a comparison of the two. New user so I may have not used the search engine correctly.

Appreciate it,

Dean

P. S.

Will be installing gauges as soon as they arrive! Westach Combo gauge EGT/Boost, and Westach Fuel Pressure mounting on A-pillar. Next step VA or EZ?

can't say i saw an MPG increase with either ...

but it didn't get any worse , the hp increased will have you in it more often , in the beginning this could cause your MPG to go down till you get past the initial "kid in a candy store" syndrome ...

as far as which is better , the VA works better with a boost module , if the latest and greatest doesn't have a boost module then you'll have to spend a few hundred more for one which gives the nod to the EZ .

what year is your ram ? 2001 and newer have a void sticker where the VA would plug in ... nod again to the EZ

Edge EZ

I put an Edge EZ in my 2001 HO about a month ago and I've been pleased so far. My mileage is up ~1. 5mpg across the board, even with putting my foot into on occasion to play with the new power (and that's calculated mileage, not computer).

I've been able to feel the difference with some of the smaller loads I've pulled since I've installed it. I'll get a chance to really test the power this weekend (hopefully) as I have some hay to move over a nice set of hills.

AggieJustin,

Did you have to remove any Void Stickers? What is preventing any of us from taking one of these stickers and having a print shop make us up new ones? You would think it would be easy.

Dean

No void stickers to remove at all. Only two connections. Just unplug your map sensor and plug in the EZ, then plug the original MAP harness into the EZ harness. Then remove the cap from the data link plug and plug in the EZ. Takes less then 5 minutes to install after you've done it once.

When I take it out, the only sign that it was there is the velcro on the electrical box next to the battery. But then again, that velcro is there to hold my box of fuses. ;)

If I'm not mistaken, the VA plugs into the injection pump harness, that does have a VOID sticker, whereas the EZ plugs into the map sensor and the Can-Bus connection, which do not.

Another plus with the EZ is it has 3 adjustments for when the fueling is added. Power delivery is very smooth with the EZ.

Gained a rock solid 2 MPG with the EZ....

When I first put it on I got almost 3 MPG but it has leveled out to 2 MPG gain. That is with my foot in it, towing (Llight load) or babying it. Actually babying it got me a little less. So the obvious conclusion there is to quit babying it, This truck loves to work.

No void stickers. Took all of 2 minutes to install the first time.

I Can't tell you what a difference it makes. You will love it. Of course this is only the start:D :D I din't have it in for long before I started wondering about the DDII"s which of course means transmission upgrades for me. Where does it all stop... ... ... .

i lost 3 mpg

I lost 3 mpg when I installed the va with the boost module and elbow. I drive very aggressively all of the time and I pay for it at the pump. I have since bombed alot more and I never really regained my fuel mileage. Although she really screams now which was all that I cared about to begin with.

My father purchased the Va and it came with a new void sticker which we didn't need because the old one looks untouched.

no void sticker

My 2001 and my uncle's 2001 had NO void sticker and I got 3mpg more with just the VA my uncle got 2mpg more with just VA. Its up in the air what you want. I now have other mods and mileage continues to increase along with break in. Good luck with your decision. Dwayne:) :D

I put on the VA. More power, great for towing and EGT's are fine. Don't know anything about the VOID discussion. I'm almost out of warranty so don't worry about it.

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like I can't go wrong with either one. I am leaning toward the EZ since the boost module is included, but we will see. Someone has offered to trade a power puck for my Blue box which would at least give me something else to try before spending the money. I just can't find out much about the power puck, but I really don't have anything to lose. If it was to work I could add a PS boost module and eventually switch out the Puck with a VA (if Puck doesn't work out long term).

Thanks again,

Dean

I believe the newest version of the VA includes the boost module, so the prices between the two are competitive again. I had an early VA HO model (w/o boost). It was a nice power increase, but I didn't see the big mpg improvement others report. I've seen at least one dyno chart that shows almost identical power increases for VA and EZ. Both companies are very big on customer satisfaction. Some feel that VA has been out longer and may be more reliable; I would guess that others feel the EZ is equally reliable. Since either will replace a unit that goes bad, this isn't a huge issue.

I also bought my Edge from www.smokindiesel.com . These guys were great to deal with. However after talking with Doug and andy + Edge tech support, I chose to go with the Edge Comp instead of the EZ. The Comp will give you the same power that the EZ will if you don't tap the pump wire plus you can adjust the smoke levels from inside the cab. When you decide to do more upgrades you can tap the pump. The only problem with this way of thinking is after trying the Comp without the pump tapped I had an instant case of the BOMB fever and I went home and plugged it in to the pump. That was about a TWO THOUSAND dollar mistake because I had to call Doug and Andy to get some DTT goodies for the trany.

I didnt read through all the post, so if someone already said this, didnt mean to ramble.

EZ is for you I think since you primarily want MPG with power being the icing on the cake.

Well then, since the EZ advances injection timing only in one of its settings, that will get you more power and better MPG alone. If you still want more power, switch it to one of the other settings that ads fuel plus increases injection timing. As far as I know, the VA is fuel and timing both, no if ands or buts about it.

Dont let the waranty thing be an issue. If DC even slightly suspects that engine is modified, they will find a way to legaly prove its your fault. They have guys who do nothing all day but figure out ways to save $$$ on these kinds of claims.

Best of luck, hope this helped.

The big difference is service... Brett and Taylor of Edge Products have their own Cummins Rams, and they back up their products 100%. The vendors they supply with their products also have an excellent reputation, and are members in the TDR. The Van Aaken, to the best of my knowledge, is an "outside" development, by a vendor that has no connection to us.

if one of Edge's distributors is willing

I would love to test the Edge EZ vs the VanAaken VA

BullyDogs 2 should be installed next week.

I would like to see the difference. :)

ready to Rumble ;)

FWIW no flame but just an offer
