Fellas,
I'd like to add a va to my rig. Will my auto hold up? I pull a 5k lb trailer, and haul 2k lb camper.
thanx in advance

BigA, I tow about 3500lb boat and haven't had any problems with the VA. I think you'll be safe.

Big A, according to everyone else on this opion it will handle the VA plus more with no problem. I just ordered DD1's and PS boost module and elbow which is 50+ rear wheel HP and with boost module should up it a small amount, i am at the limit of what you should do before auto upgrades. The combination i ordered cost me $647. 30 includeing 2nd day delivery, bang for buck in my opinion is 50+ verses VA's 25 to 42 rear wheel HP. Install the injectors yourself and save over the VA or have them installed and cost about the same (injectors and insallation) as the VA. Just my opinion, don't mean to slam any company as they are all good products.

i'd get the VA , i have the VA and 275 inj's and a PE , the trans has fine , but i think my convertor is finally giving up the battle , with the PE off all is fine , i do get on it from time to time and have been running it at the track . i don't recommend this combo , it is to much for the stock convertor to handle , but just a VA will be fine.

The VA caused the converter to chatter on my 99 2500 when pulling a #10,000 5th wheel. No problem with out the trailer.

Thanx for the reply guys. I feel like the va will give me what I need to pull those long 6 & 7 pcnt grades. Currently, I'm pulling those long grades at about 55mph with about a 7k lb load.

Big A, I have had the VA CPC on my Ram for over seven months now. I still like it as much as the day I first installed it. Any other (additional) performance enhancements I make will have to work effectively with my VA CPC! Adding the VA CPC by itself will not tear up your automatic transmission. #ad

I think you will like the VA. I sold mine and moved to the PE, simply for more power. I was never unhappy with the VA while I had it. The combination of my right foot and the PE has done a number on my clutch (don't regret it, just FYI).

Once you have the VA you can still tweak the truck a bit more by working on the wastegate & ECM defueling issues with reasonably priced 'fixes'.

For real towing in a conservative truck, IMHO the VA is probably a better fit as it offers the lower end power that is still missing from the PE. (a timing mod from PE has been rumored for some time but has not yet shown it's face)

Big A, the Van Aaken CPC is the most intelligent electronic upgrade for what you want to do.
I carry all brands So I am not bias in any way, I Look at what you want to accomplish and make recommendations accordingly.

Hey ted now that your on the thread i have a question. Bang for buck if i can get the boost module, boost elbow, and DD1 injectors for the same price as the VA which one should i use? Need power to pull at max gcwr, i am talking specifically bang for buck or hp. If you cannot respond on the board please e-mail me as i have everything ready to go in my truck, or should i send them back.

BigA, I met up with SteveAZ on Saturday to take a spin in his '99 with the VA, and was impressed with its surge in the lower RPM's. If you are going to tow, this is what you want.

Next time Steve, we'll have to try it from a dead stop. I didn't realize you were spinning the rears most of the way during our drag test.

Big A.

I have the va and love it. I pull about 21,000lbs with it and it does all that i won't. I am going to install a boost module and elbow as soon as it get to my house. I order it from Gordon about 5 day ago, can't wate to get it. Try it you will like it Dodge.

Joe and I have exchanged towing stories with the VA over the past couple of months. I really like mine as well. Adds a nice amount of pop to the motor. The issue of whether to go with the VA or the DD1, Boost Module and Elbow is an interesting one though. I have read posts on the DD1's that are extremely positive. And with the Boost Module you shouldn't see the cut back in fueling under hard pulls. Ideally, I'd like to do the combo of the VA with the DD1's, the Boost Module and Elbow. Oughta be some nice pulling power.

To make a complete package, you NEED the boost module. whether it is the injectors or the VA, it really makes things work better(EGT, smoke, etc). Someone needs to make a "box" with all factory connections(MAP sensor and fueling. I have been unhappy with my stage II injectors, too much smoke and 6mpg loaded. I will put the stage 1's in here in a day or two. I think if I had any other truck(none 2001) I would love the stage II. The PE is a blast but under the wrong hands it is time bomb waiting to shread your truck.
