well after searching the forums i've been reading about the disassembly of the vac/ps pump, i have a '92 do they just unbolt to seperate the two? all i'm trying to do is replace the leaky seals and all i find is the info on the pre '91. 5 pumps, and my second question is where is the best place to find the injection pump drive gear? cummins priced it out at 170, dodge priced it out over 220w/ an employee discount, anyone know of any better deals? thanks for the help

How about a salvage yard for the gear or (seller ID - redliner) on ebay. Or Reliablegoods online.

That pwr steering pump gear may come off the same way as the older ones do, you make a pin and run a bolt down on it to "draw" the gear off, let someone else who knows for sure confirm that, I'd hate to see you damage something if I am wrong.

The vac pump gears are different from nonIc to IC. At least they attach differently, if I recall correctly. They could be the same gear.

They just unbolt to seperate. It is much easier off engine, and they may require some persuasion from a rubber mallet to get them apart. Take the usual precautions when reinstalling the p/s and vac pumps, and you should be good to go.

I keep forgetting to look up the CUmmins part number, but I called the StLouis shop and they had like 27 in stock when I gave them the part number, which makes me think it is posted somewhere on the TDR. Kits were around $7. 50ea; I ordered 2 kits, and had them shipped (I hate dealing with the Sikeston Cummins shop) for $17. xx total.

Thanks for the reply's, i got an seal kit from my local cummins dealer for the ps/vac pump but when i went to replace the seals yesterday after cleaning up the pump i find that they gave me a seal kit for what looks to be the early style but i'm off the the cummins dealer again to order up all the parts i need.

You sure they gave you a vacuum pump kit and not a power stering pump kit? There are about 3 or 4 o-rings, a big gasket, and the seal between the p/s and vac pumps. I didnt realize they had seal kits for the early style pumps.

They do. There are o-rings for the brackets and drive support. Plus the other misc where the pump and the drive support come together etc.

I went in with p/n's and ordered all the seperates from one guy and when I went to pick them up another guy informed me of the whole works available as a kit...

the part number that they gave me was 4089742 priced at 8. 48 but it did not have the correct o-ring for between the vac and ps pump, i'm trying to locate the correct part number right now.

Here's the seperates from the 89' Cummins Part Catalog, the numbers will be superceded automatically by them (Cummins). Please post the new p/n if you get them.

Ref #'s first, then part number, Cummins description, then mine in parenthesize.

Ref # 4, 3913192, hyd. pump gasket (gasket between assy and gear case)

#8, 3910260 (2 qty), o-ring seal (one for each pod @ accessory drive support or bracket, bottome pod has bracket)

#13, 3911805, o-ring seal (this is the one between the pwr steer pump and accy drive support) This is a current p/n @ $2. 35

#20, 3912822, o-ring seal ( between bottom pod bracket and accy drive support)
