I was wondering if my vacume pump can be rebuilt or if there is a seal kit or somthing for it. Its seems to work fine but it has oil dripping off the bottom making a mess of everything under the truck. Anyone?

There is a seal between the vacuum pump and the power steering pump. I goobered mine when I pulled the power steering pump a while back, had oil everywhere. They apparently dont sell just the seal, gotta buy the while pump. I took mine apart and used some silicone, and made sure the seal was as straight as I could get it and that pretty much fixed it. I haven't had a chance to wash the area yet and see if it is still leaking, been too cold. I don't have a puddle anymore though.

Seals

I have the o-ring & oil seals to fit that. I just mailed out a set today to someone else. If your interested e-mail me. -- email address removed --

I need the piece on the end of the power steering shaft, that goes into the vac pump. Mines damaged and so the seal is leaking again. If I went to a wrecking yard, I would probably have to buy the whole pump, just for the end piece, my luck they would probably want a fortune for it.

How hard is it to take the vacume pump off. I assume you have to take the power stearing off and set it back?. Just wondering how long of a job it will be. I will be in contact about the O-rings. I have to take the truck in tomorrow for some rearend work. Thanks for the replys.

Change seal

Scott

When I change them I leave the casting attached to the P. S. pump. I take the two nuts off that hold the casting to the vac. pump, leaving the P. S. pump attached until you get to the work bench is a lot easier. Just be careful not to lose the drive plate. It looks like a large washer with a big "X" in the center. It will fall out when you seperate the two pieces, put some grease on it when you put it back to hold it in place.

I have swapped the bottom one twice on my truck. I can't ever seem to get the pump assembly out of the truck so I rotate it around to get at the nuts and bolts. Tedious but it can be done. Mine leaks around the gasket with the front cover also.

MY FATHERS TRUCK IS NOT RECOVERING VAC. FROM CONSECUTIVE BRAKING IN TRAFFIC. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE VAC. PUMP CAN BE REBUILT OR PURCHASE A REMAN UNIT. IF SO WHO, WHERE, OR A NUMBER POSSIBLY.

I bought my first one from Dodge. Cost big $$$. The second one I got from NAPA at around 1/3 the price. I don't have the numbers for them.
