It was posted here a couple of weeks ago about connecting a vacuum cleaner up to the oil fill spout in order to remove the oil drain plug without losing any oil. It indeed works, but I heard on the radio this weekend that if you do this to a gasser the gasoline fumes will be drawn into the vacuum where the motor spark will ignite them, vacuum cleaner blows up!Beware.

Bill, doesn't this fit into the "Darwin theory in action" catagory? #ad

Maybe we should just let nature take it's course... #ad

Try using the brake booster hose from a gasser. Obviously you will have to adapt a longer hose to reach your tank. I have used it on fuel oil tanks, gas tanks hydraulic oil tanks you name it. It will hold back virtually any volume, I've done this on a 225 gallon hydraulic oil tank on a concrete pump truck. The vacume created by a gasser is enough to collapse a tank if you leave it too long without removing the plug and releasing some vacume. BUT be carfull that the gasser doesn't stall, we all know how reliable they can be.

Will the gasser blow if it sucks in fumes? #ad

Another idea that sucks #ad

To run a string through electrical conduit, tie it around a wadded up plastic bag and shove the bag into the conduit. Attach the shop vac to the other end and watch the string run!.

I picked up a length of 3/4 inch PVC pipe out of the scrap heap for a quick repair to the sprinklers. The inside was full of cr**. I wadded up a wet paper towel and shoved it in one end and sucked it through with the shop vac. Inside was almost like new.

JS,use that method all the time for pulling string though conduit, once pulled 1200 ft,took the vacuum about 30 seconds.
Another use for the vacuum is for folks that have trouble controlling their blatter, just stick the vac in your mouth. #ad

THANKS APPLE GUY! There are those gals on the corner who can pull a full 30" of vacuum for 20 bucks... that would save ya 12 quarts of oil... do the math. #ad

I'll be chuckling all day long after reading this one (again)!

I knew it would only take a few posts before we were on to women who could suck golf-balls through garden hoses!! #ad

Hey apple Guy, ya got me do'in weird I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER like being alone in my dark garage with my 3. 25 Craftsman vac look'in for sparks. . I'm not sure but I think thats an induction (brushless) motor. No sparks. But why take a chance when the gal on the corner is just wait'in to pull 30" #ad

Another great use for the shop vac:

When the glow plugs in a 6. 2 burn out, the often swell up and break off in the prechamber when you try to remove them. Instead of pulling the head, pull the fuel injectors on the affected cylinders. Then take a piece of clear ~1" vinyl tubing, duct tape it to the end of the vac. hose, turn it on, and stick it in the injector hole. Watch the broken plug parts go up the hose. Wish I figured this out the first time before I pulled off the heads.
