I have a vacuum pump leaking engine oil at the shaft on my 2001 HO. My dealer wants over $1000 for a new pump:--) Is there any cheaper way?Can a new seal be installed in the old pump? Is there any net dealers selling new parts?:{ It is a slow leak so I will continue to drive it untell I have time to rip it apart myself. .

HELP

Anyone have the specs for the o-ring? Sounds like I have the same leak and if I have to pull vac. & p/s pumps off I'd like to have the fix in hand. I found the dimensions for the seal in a couple prior posts:

"The seal for the vacuum pump is a 38mm od x 28mm id x 7mm thick with double lip viton material" and "I got one @ NAPA- Chicago Rawhide # 10924"

but no detail on the o-ring. Anyone?

Cummins wants $605 for a vacuum pump for a MY2000.

Hope you've resolved your leak!

I would have hoped the warranty would cover it, as the truck has 40,000 miles on it. However the vacuum pump is not considered part of the engine. . Its my cost to fix it!!

WHERE IS THE VACUMN PUMP LOCATED? I HAVE A LEAK HIGH FRONT LEFT ENGINE, NOT VALVE COVER. CANT SEE WHERE IT IS COMING FROM. 99 2500.

I would suggest putting UV dye in the engine oil for a couple of days and see if it stains the leaking area, then put dye in the PS fluid and see if that is it. This way, you can determine which one is leaking.
