Vacuum Pump Leaking

Looks like I have an oil leak on the seal on the Vacuum Pump where the shaft that drives the power steering pump goes into it. Stealer wants $1025 + labor for a new Vacuum Pump,says they cant just replace the seal. I will check with Cummins tommorow.

Mine is leaking also, just a little at this point.



There was a thread about this a while ago. I think it is around $150. 00 for the seal replacement at Cummins. Includes a dye job to verify the source of the leak before replacing the seal.



I am still under warranty, haven't decided if I am going to let DC touch the truck or put up the $$$ to have Cummins do it.

Way back in July '00 there was a short post on this.



CPFF stated he couldn't find a seal at his local Cummins place. But, he did find a seal at an industrial bearing supply place.



He didn't list a part#, but said the seal was metric sized, with these dimensions:



28mm i. d. , 38mm o. d. , 7mm wide (or wider).



He said there was also a metric sized O-ring required.

B9 is correct. There is an adaptor between the power steering pump and vaccum pump. The seal and o ring are in this adaptor. Just remove both pumps as one assembly. When you put it on the work bench taking it apart will be clear. It is also shown in the service manual. The seal and o ring should not cost more than 30 bucks with shipping. The part number of the seal is molded on the seal. Just take the number to any place that orders seal or bearings. It is nothing special. Did mine a while back. Be carfull with the adaptor between the pumps. It is light aluminium and you could break it if you drop it or pry on it. The fix beats a 1k$. Have fun, it's not a major job!
