Can any one tell me if the Dodge 03 HD diesel has a vacuum pump ? My gooseneck trailer has vacuum over Hydraulic disc brakes , works great on my 96.

Gear or elect power?

Will the vacuum pump that comes with the 03 exhaust brake be gear or elect power ? Any links on detailed info on the 03 exhaust brake ? - - Thanks

The pump is belt driven, you get a different fan belt. Here is a link to the Jacobs site and you can down load the pdf manual if you want.

THe '03 does have a vacuum pump. Its electric, very small, and located underhood on the passenger side of the truck. Interestingly, it is the SAME one Ford uses on the PSD-powered vehicles. Same electrical connector and everything. This pump, however, is very weak and cannot handle an exhaust brake. Thats why you have to install a more powerful unit when installing a brake on a Ford. Same will prove true on the '03 Ram.

I plan on going with an air-operated exhaust brake on my '04, which I'll be ordering as soon as they become available. Air-operated brakes seem to work better in most conditions, and typically have fewer problems. Plus, you get to have a readily available supply of air for various things, too! :-D

Per the 03 Ram shop manual, the electric vacuum pump is used on 03 Ram diesel automatic trucks to operate the cruise control servo. Manual transmission trucks do not have a vacuum pump as their cruise is all electronic within the ECM.
