It provides no warning with laser! I found out the hard way this morning on my way to work. Was doing 70 in a 60mph zone on the freeway, and as I crested a hill, there was a WSP (Washington State Patrol) standing outside of his cruiser with the laser gun pointed right at my truck. As soon as I saw him, my V-1 laser warning went ape for a second, but it was too late. He hopped in his car and chased me down... . He was a cool guy, and let me off with a warning. That surprised me because I think he saw my V-1 after I had pulled it off the winshield and stuck it in the cubbyhole in the dash. (I also still had the mounting bracket stuck to the windshield!)

It seems like more and more law enforcement agencies are switching to laser, and there is not a laser detector that I am aware of that provides enough warning to slow down in time. :(

Oh well, at least I know my speedo is dead on!:D :D

Best thing to get is a jammer. I saw a thing on TV where they were testing Jammers on a course and a HP was using a gun and it was hooked to a "your speed is" sign and while he was going, it displayed nothing at all so it jammed the gun. Impressive!

Not sure on the legality of it in what state and so on.....

One thing about laser is that it doesn't bounce off other vehicles like x, k or ka does. :( No warning, no matter what detector, unless you're in the line of fire of someone else. They put out a pretty narrow beam. :{

Heard laser is so fast that as soon as they gun you, it's over. Seems like that is what happened to you.

You can do what I do... slow down...

My truck won't let me slow down!:D If it weren't for the (mostly)trusty V-1, I would be pulled over much more often... . :D :D

I've been looking at the K-40 - they'll pay the ticket if you get one. Pretty pricey though - $1500. 00 installed from a local shop here in Denver. :--)

I think that I would rather slow down :D :D

... but, my wife said that if I get a ticket due to all the BOMBing that I have done to the truck, she takin' the truck away and driving it herself :{ ... hmmmm - might be worth the $$$ after all :D :D

I'm suprised they even bother you for 10 mph.

I got stopped for 67 in a 50 zone a few weeks ago. No ticket.

Guess I'm lucky like that...

Yup. Lasers don't put out any signal until they pull the trigger, unlike some of the older radar guns still in use. The lasers are as quick as a bullet at getting your speed. I've heard about some of the jammers. They have to put out a pretty strong signal to jam laser guns because they have to override the reflectance of the output beam of the gun, which it uses to figure speed, and the output of the jammer cannot be focused (it doesn't know the exact location of the patrolman's gun).

Another option is to reduce reflectance of the front of your truck. Patrolmen are trained to aim at your license plate, which has the best reflectance. If you can angle it so it doesn't reflect back, or put a shield in front of it that blocks reflectance of the laser, that helps. Then spray everything chrome with flat black paint.

At one time I saw a big dark green Ford PU around here that had the entire front end, including his brush guard, sprayed with color-matched Rhino-Liner. Great for minimizing rock dings. Side benefit is no light (including laser) would reflect back.

Time to go read up on stealth technology!

Jammers are illegal here in TX. I think most every state too. FCC rules and such. If caught with a jammer, you could be looking at some serious time, or fines. When I was in high school, I thought about building one but the technology wasnt that good, and it was just easier to slow down. I havent had a speeding ticket in many years. You just need to slow down before you crest hills.

Laser jammers are legal in most states. They only emit light at 905 nanoseconds... . same frequency as the laser gun. Result is laser gun receives more light reflections than it sent out and cannot compute a speed. Works best at protecting your license plate and areas around it. May not protect other targets such as headlights, chrome outside mirrors or bumpers etc. because of being too far away from jammer. It will buy you some time since cops will shoot your plate first. That will give you a couple of seconds to slow down if you see them right away. I have a Blinder M10 and I know it saved me from a ticket several times. One time I saw the cop put the laser gun down with his hands on his hips and watched me go by at a legal speed. I was driving my wife's Lexus GS400 at the time and punched it hard to get into the next lane to make my exit. As soon as I changed lanes I saw the cop with the laser pointed right at me. I was going 70 in a 55 zone and passed him at about 60. Looked in rear view mirror and saw him still looking at me with his hands on his hips wondering why he could get a reading on me.

I think that jamming ANY broadcast medium is considered illegal by FCC regs.

Now if ya' wanna broadcast at the same freq. as the recipient???? :D  what the heck, :p why not.

It's a free country ain't it?

sdalton,

I knew you were talking about RADAR jammers and not LASER when you mentioned the FCC. Radio waves are under the control of the FCC, but get this, laser jammers emit light and light emission is under the control of the FDA! :D

jberelson,

thanks for the correction... . I knew it was nano something.

Wayno,

Check this website for good info on radar/laser detectors and jammers. It contains info on the Blinder M10 and others.

Your lucky... . I just got a ticket for doing 70 in a 60. Of course it was at the end of the month.
