Hi Jeff,

I had a Passport 8500 for a month, sent it back and picked up a Valentine One.

All I can say is, Valentine One...

Hope this helps...

Andy

Valentine 1, with sensitivity set on "L".

By the way, mine is mounted up as high as possible on the windshield, just to the drivers side of the overhead console. You can get power from the overhead console. The power connector is your standard RJ-11 & the center 2 are used for + and ground. Makes for a short power cable. :)

I have had a Valentine for about 6 years, it has paid for itself by now. I'm in the process of moving it to my new truck.

Does anyone out there know what wire is 'ignition hot' in the overhead console?

XR 1050

Has anyone used the cobra XR-1050 radar detector? Any comments on the XR are welcome, are there any tests done on this particlar one? OUt of the V1 or the P8500, I would go with the Passport 8500 because of the ability to change and reprogram the detector for future use and that it has a better signal detector than valantine 1.

I used the power for the mirror. It is 'ignition hot'

Dunno, both have a good reputation. I've had nothing but Escorts over the past 20 years ( still have my first 'big box' Escort and the little Passport, why I don't know... ), and have yet to get a ticket while they've been on. Currently I run their 2-3 year old Solo cordless. Saved my bacon just this AM on the way to work. And countless times over the years.

I see the ads in AutoWeek all the time for the Heart unit. Bottomline, if the box is yelln' your going to slow down until it is quite. I don't really care to know that there are 3 'bogies' ahead or one. One is all it takes. At $300 plus, they seem mighty proud of that receiver.

Now, that said, cheap units like Cobras etc. , will drive you nuts with false alarms. Either will do the job, I'd base my final on price.

my 20 years worth of . 02

I was thinking of getting a Valentine One until I read those articles on radar detectors. I do believe I will be looking at a BEL before I buy my next radar dectector.
