Well I thought I would go on-line and order so flowers for my wife. So I found something that was in my price range. I'm not a rich man and I know my wife is priceless but. Here is what I saw at checkout.

flowers = $39. 99

card = $ 1. 99

std. delivery = $ 9. 99

morning del. = $14. 99

guaranteed

valentines

day del. = $ 9. 99

15% off = -$ 6. 30

care & handle = $ 2. 99

tax = $ 2. 12

TOTAL ===== $75. 76

there is $34. 97 in delivery charges. Thats as much as the flowers, and the shop is only 2 blocks away from my wifes employment.

I think I will just go someplace and buy flowers and take them to her. Its not quite the same as having them delivered but these prices are insane.

Why stop there?

As long as you're there, you can also save money by doing the stripper dance yourself, too. :D

The rest of the women in the office will be sooo envious.

What kills me about this particular Hallmark holiday is the impracticality and, as GHerrmann enumerated so well, the ridiculous costs. All for flowers that will be in a trash can inside of a week.

I tell my wife that I would rather wait a month or two and buy her a tree, or plants, or garden vegetable seeds/plantings, or even just another house plant to torture properly and see it die a prolonged death (she has the brownest thumb ever), than buy her decomposing roses now.

And if a "gift that lasts" is the best gift, then I will buy her chocolates that she can wear on her hips and thighs for years... :-laf

Yup. I'm truly the last of Great Romantics. ;)

My wife's birthday is on Feb 18th. For the first 2-3 years of our marriage she cost me a ton of money having to do both Valentines day and her birthday in the same week. Then luck came my way. I realized that on the 17th of Feb I could buy left over Valentines roses for almost nothing. Well after 3 years of giving my wife nearly wilted roses she caught on to my little money saving plan. LOL
I did learn that right after Valentines day you can buy chocolate candy for 80% off at those big drug stores. LOL Hello Rochelles.
