Now you want my secrets on this too? :-laf

Graingers, part #6JJ52, was $24. 50. I had some pics, I'll see if I can find them.

Here it is, this is the hose from the head to the valve.

This is the original line, I just flipped it over. I'm cheap. ;)

i guess we made a name for our selves matt... or should i say "big brother"? :-laf

but Pete, wont that make your our "old man"? :D

and yea pete i do have some questions for you... . :-laf, whats the point of tthis whole sytem???

I knew it! Can't you leave an old man alone so I can go to bed? Darn kids stay up all nite on the darn computer! :-laf

The purpose of this is to cut boost to the AFC. This, in turn, cuts fuel at higher boost. For guys like me with a lead foot, it allegedly helps me save fuel. Too bad I know where the switch is! :-laf

See ya tomorrow! ;)

pete

i see well, get your beauty rest elder... . but im the A. M. i want to know if this mod is for power or for conserving fuel? cause if i know you, there has to be some other reason than just "savin a little fuel"

It's for just what it sounds like, valets. When you flip the switch, it powers the pump way down. So when you have the grungy lookin guy at Goodyear do an alignment on your truck, and you can see that glimmer in his eye when he goes to test drive it, you flip the switch so that the your truck turns back into the dog that it was when you first got your hands on it. I can just picture leaving it there with them, those guys are probably tellin all their friends, drinking beer, and doing donuts with my truck. Maybe I'm a little over paranoid?

That's genius, PT. I wasn't sure what you could limit to cut down on the power, being a mechanical pump and all. I thought maybe a limiting valve on the fuel line, but that sounds like it would just be hard on the injection pump.

Anyway, yeah, I got a couple questions. I take it that grainger part is just the valve, right. All fittings, hose, and mounting I need to buy on my own.

Second, I take it it didn't come with a switch. The valve comes with some kind of solenoid or whatever to activate it, right? You just wire in the switch of your choice and youre good to go?

my valet switch is only taking my truck to somebody else when i cant do it on my own, which is usually a buddy that ill work long side of, but the only shop i every take the cummins to is a guy in town i know, who is a cummins genious, he's buddy of mine, and his own cummins is hot rodded so much more than mine he wouldnt even care to get to much into mine. my rule... . if i dont no em, i dont leave my girl with em...

Well, I can't exactly balance a tire at home, which I buy a new set every year. I can't do an alignment at home (at least not to the accuracy the shops do it to). And as we all saw about 3 weeks ago, theres my quarterly blowing of the transmission affair in which I have to take the truck to some goon who talks a good game about automatics and probably does brake stands with my truck as soon as I leave. Besides that, I have borrowed it to close friends, or family members if they really need a real truck for something. I only borrow it to people I can trust, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have a little added security, knowing full well that the accelerator pedal is tied to more torque than most of them have ever handled before, and they're not used to that.

hhahaah, yea. . thankfully i know guys in almost every area or expertise my truck would ever need to go too. as far as family and friends borrowing it... haha. if anybody asks they usaully just ask me if i can use my truck to help them, because the typ of people that need some body with a truck like ours, are usually the ones that dont know how to handle one this size, if they did theyd own one, so i usually let it be my butt in the seat :D

i can count on one had the people that have drove my truck. bsides that, havin a manual adds to it. i usually have to tell people whose left foot i dont trust... "well ya see she's got over 270,000 miles on the origional clutch an id hate for you to be drivin it when she goes" :-laf

Eh... I can't use that excuse, even for my auto, considering I haven't owned a transmission over 15k miles in the last year and a half. I let my dad and my sister borrow my truck if they need it. Both of them are into vehicles, at least to some extent, so they aren't just flippant drivers. I don't let people drive it who just seem so bored driving their own car that they're always on the cell phone, or trying to read, or eat while they drive... people who drive to just get somewhere and thats the extent. My sister and dad both like driving. I think theres a world of difference between the two types of people. I also have 2 friends I trust to drive it. Both are truck guys. Both have 3/4 tons of their own. One of them being a first gen. My issue is that my truck has a lot more under the accelerator than either of their trucks. I trust them not to wreck it because they know how to drive a truck, but that doesn't mean they won't burn as much fuel as they can and put a few more wrinkles in my transmission than need be. C'mon, if someone put you behind the seat of a truck that had more power than youre used to, wouldn't you test it out a little?

aw well sure id test it out a little. but then again im very conservative, almost always ;) i drove my best friends '05 cummins 2500 reg. cab auto. banks six gun tuner. silverline 5inch dual. banks highram, the list goes on and on, but his truck is like a cadilac comparied to ours. when i drive his i can drive that thing like a honda, no lie, the handleing is fanominal. everything is tight. and it is faster than a bat outa hell. @ 90mph you think your doin 50mph.

Man, I leave you 2 alone for a couple hours and you got a 3 page post already! :-laf

The solenoid is the valve and actuator, All you do is wire in a switch, and plumb the lines. I didn't want to go hunt up a hose and fittings so I flipped my thing around. The other hose I had. The way I use it, switch off is no boost, dog mode. Still goes waaay better than stock. ;) Flip the switch at about 15 psi, it's like hitting nitrous in a gas car! Boost jumps, egt's jump, truck jumps! :D

The valve has 3 holes, in,out, exhaust. The holes are marked, can't remember how. Just blow in the single hole, in the pic, on the right. Should come out 1 of the others, closer to engine in pic, this is exhaust. Single hole to AFC, other is left open for exhaust. 3rd use for inlet. It comes with instructions, should be simple.

Now what?

I used a key switch so you need the key to turn it. why????

I have two teenage sons. :)

no AFC boost on mine 190 HP @ 24psi, turn switch and I have 260 @ 32. If I turn the pump up a little, I get more HP at 36PSI, but the valet no longer does much of a limit.

well worth it for the "nitrous factor"Oo.

Oh yeah! Want to test it? Pull the AFC boost hose from the head, put in a plug. That's exactly what the valet does. ;)

With it off, I get about 29lbs (?) with it on, I get 42-44 lbs.

Must be nice, you guys are spending your money and time putting in gadgets to slow you down meanwhile I'm spending thousands and thousands on my truck and I still to this day haven't smoked a rice burner. That's when I know who's spoiled around here :-laf

Although after I get this Dana 80 in I hope to have a sherman tank.

Carl (the other one, not Degner)

Carl, I already spent my money to go fast! Now I'm spending it to save fuel! ;)

Smoking a Rice burner is overrated, smoking a Ford is where the fun is! :-laf

And I know which one you are, one of the founding fathers of SOP. :D (even if you didn't show this year) :-laf
