Trying to buy a new truck, have a question for you folks.

What is the deduction for 2500 miles on a demo truck? The owner of the dealership has been driving it.

It is a nice truck.

Here are the specs:

LB
QC
4x4
HO 6 speed
Limited Slip
Sport Package
SLT Plus
3. 54 diffs
HD 241
Trailer Package
Camper Package
Bright White
Camel Leather

Invoice is 35,029. They think they should still get invoice for the truck. What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Dave

If you were to drive that onto their lot as a trade in with those miles you bet they would consider it used and price it accordingly.

Have you checked to see what it's worth as a used truck? edmunds.com has a pricing tool that will let you fill in the specifics on a vehicle and it will tell you trade in and resale value.
Of course if they sell it as new at invoice and there are any incentives still going on you should be able to get those #ad

Based on what my local dealership will discount a new truck with similar equipment, they *should* let it go in the mid 27's to $28.

I bought my '95 as a demo in '96, the dealer had sent it out and had it customized, they were asking $36k for it and nobody wanted to pay the price, it was the only '95 they had left, 3k miles on it. They knocked the price down to $28k for it, I told them sure, but would be back in a month after vacation. When I returned the truck had 700 more miles on it, the service manager had been driving it and shot a hole in the floor while hunting( gives you great faith in dealer service). I got the price down to $22k,they fixed the hole, gave me a service manual and paid $260 airfare for me to come pick it up, they even picked me up at the airport with it. Came with full warranty and license. I was happy and still am, 133k on the truck now.

Most demo vehicles with insignificant mileage should be discounted 20% on average. That puts that $36K truck at $28,800 on the road. If the truck is exactly what you're looking for - go for it. It's hard to do significant damage to these things in only 2500 miles - since the engine doesn't require a break-in, "abuse" could only make it better. #ad
Ok, 2500 miles of hot-shutdown might be bad, but it would surface itself before the 3/36K warranty was up.
