Hey guys,

I am getting my 2001 ready to sell. KBB and NADA don't account for any modifications. Trying to figure out what I should try and get for a selling price. Stock range for KBB and NADA for private party sale are in the $11,000-$13,000 range based on my year, model and mileage. Here is what I have:

2001 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Club Cab (butterfly doors), long bed, 6 speed manual transmission with HO 24 valve 5.9L Cummins engine. 168,xxx miles with an engine rebuild in Feb of 2011 at 156,xxx miles (I got one of those faulty blocks made in Brazil )

I have made the following modifications and add ons:

BD X-Monitor Gauge package (EGT, Fuel Pressure and Turbo Boost)
Edge EZ chip
EDM 1.5 injectors
AFE Stage II Pro Guard 7 Cold Air Intake
4" Jardine stainless steel exhaust with Magnaflow muffler
Pacbrake PRXB Exhaust Brake
PDR Turbo Boots with heavy duty clamps
Southbend Clutch (450 hp/1000 ft lb torque rated)
Power Slot front disc rotors with Hawk Brake Pads
Air Dog Fuel/Air Separator and pump
Aluminum Dee Zee running boards
16k Reese 5th wheel hitch
Handy 5th wheel tailgate
Spray in Line-X bed liner
custom fit floor mats
Two sets of tire/rims (BF Goodrich All Terrain T/As for winter and Michelin Commercial for summer and towing)
Helm Factory Repair Manuals

Truck is in good shape. Needs a couple of things fixed. AC is not blowing cold air. Recharged it last summer but must have a leak somewhere. Needs a new windshield. Cruise control won't set. 4WD won't engage, but I'm working on fixing that. Narrowed it down to either a vacuum leak or a faulty transfer case switch.

I haven't added up all I've spent on the list above, but it is somewhere in the $6k-$10k range.

I'm sure as you well know you can demand more because of the 6 spd. With no air though, possibly a condenser= dash removal and may as well do the heater core while in there. Had it done to both 2nd gens I have owned. I would imagine cruise is just a vacuum leak probably broke by drivers side battery. Is it 4 wheel disc? I personally would fix the stuff so you don't get beat down too bad

Yeah was planning on taking it to a shop to get the AC fixed. Been trying to find the damn vacuum leak. Found one by the battery early on like you suggested and another one down by the front drive shaft. 4WD and Cruise still not working. Only front disc. It is an early 2001. Probably will get a new windshield as well as that's less than $200 to get a new one. The PacBrake alone was $1200. Installed most of it myself except for fitting it to the exhaust pipe. Paid a neighbor of mine $300 to take care of that as he had the right tools.

If it helps, I ended up selling mine for $9500 recently. Same truck, 2001.5, similar mods, except mine was a 2WD with 107,000 miles. Mine needed a heater core and the ABS light was on. I wouldn't worry to much about how much you have in the mods, unless you find a Cummins gearhead, the buyers don't really care. I had a couple of buyers quite interested until the heater core and ABS light came up, they walked. It will be a much easier sale if everything works but the cost of repairs won't necessarily be recovered by an increased sales price.

Good luck

Sam

As mentioned above, if you sell it to another Cummins "bomber", there's a chance you might get some added $$$ for the mods. On the other hand, if you sell it or trade it in the general marketplace, be prepared to take a beating on valuation as (rightly or wrongly) the general consumer populace has been indoctrinated to avoid bombed trucks.

As the old saying goes, the value of anything is what a buyer is willing to pay for it. It all depends on whether or not you can find the right buyer.

Sold my 99 with exactly 200k on the clock for 10k. I still keep in touch with the guy, out west in Nevada now, putting down 600hp now! I didn't have mine on long and came down on asking price but it was a a very clean truck and not heavily modified, and all the common break down problems were fixed it was led to a quick sale for me. I had money in it, built auto, injectors, heater core/condenser, new tires/rims, toolbox/tonneau cover, sport light conversion etc.

Sold the same truck, 2001.5, 166k miles, very light use, had original brake pads, spare south bend clutch in the box and lots of spares. Got $16,500 after just pushing it to the curb.

I just sold my 2001 & 1/2 for $21K....103,000 miles, transmission upgraded at 85k, custom hauler bed. Mine was an automatic 4X4 with 4" exhaust and an Edge controller. Truck is immaculate in and out and I would not hesitate to hook up our 5th wheel and go anywhere!

Just depends on finding the right buyer.
