I GOT TO BUSY TO FOLLOW UP ON MY TRANS SHUDDER. I DID REMOVE THE EDGE EZ AND THE SHUDDER STOPPED,BUT OH WHAT A SLUG IN COMPARISON. MY QUESTION IS WHAT TO DO? THE ONLY MOD WILL BE THE EZ,SO WHAT DO I DO ,VALVE BODY OR WHAT ELSE, OR IS THAT ENOUGH. IT IS OBVIOUS THERE ARE A LOT OF QUALIFIED PEOPLE TO ANSWER MY QUESTIONS IN THIS GROUP. I JUST JOINED RECENTLY AND AM IMPRESSED .

shift kit or valve body

There isn't much price difference between the two, the valve body will give you more bang for your buck

check out the valve body section www.dieseltrans.com

you will get lots of feedback on this thread.

Welcome to the TDR Family ;)

crp-dstr... . A year ago I ordered a DTT Valve body and EZ from Bill Kondolay. When they came I installed the EZ by itself and could slip the transmission so bad I could watch the tack rev without moving the speedometer.

I had my mechanic service the transmission and he installed the valve body no charge while he was at it. Has never slipped since and I am happier than a pig in *****. Best move yet on my truck.

But I like my BHAF too.

A shift kit is under $100 if you can install it yourself, a VB will be around $400 and you just bolt it in. They will both likely need to be adjusted, and the adjustments are basically the same. I would do the shift kit if I was not planning on full transmission mods. If you are going to do a TC later I would get the VB from the maker of the TC you think you will get.

cpr-dstr, if your trans is still in good shape, the valve body will be all you need, unless you are towing over the recommended GVWR,or using an exhaust brake, then the 3rd clutch should be beefed up. As for what brand,I preffer DTT,but its totally up to you, this is your money, read the old threads, look at the new ones, call the shops up you are considering, and you decide who's the best for you to use.

What he said ^^^^^^ good post Snow man.

Had Transgo kit installed by my local transmission guy. As you can see I pull a very heavy 5th wheel. If I am fully loaded with the dog, kids, etc my GCVW is 22,200 Lbs. Live in Oregon and pull some pretty steep grades. Installed the kit at 50K and now have 65 K. So far everything is working perfect.

I'm knocking on wood. My transmission guy said the transmission is a proven design and should give good service at least 100K as long as temps are kept down. So far, the highest transmission temp measured at the pan is 190 degrees.

jimnance,

Not trying to put fear into you but 190 degrees measured in the pan is getting pretty high, in the out line, which is the working temp of the transmission, the temps are alot higher. If there is anything you can change about your driveing habits to keep the transmission a little cooler will help the transmission live longer.
