Has anyone installed a DTT valve body?, I am getting one and would like to look over the project before the parts show up.

VB Install

Hi Kcook, I did my DTT install, and it really is pretty easy. You should have a pressure gauge, and test your pressures before and after. Bill K will explain where why and how.

For draining your trans fluid, I use a rubber trash can lid with the center cut out over a five gallon pail. The trash can lid acts as a huge funnel, and keeps the mess more tollerable.

The swap of the VB itself is quite easy. The only items I can think of to be aware of is to clean the trans case around the shift lever and the data plug just behind the shift lever. Lube the data plug area with some WD40 or oil.

The big resistance to pulling the VB down is pulling this data plug and it's o-ring out of the trans case. One hand below the Vb and a thumb above pushing down on the data plug makes this much easier. Don't bend the pins on the plug.

Read the directions first, at least five times. Then read them again! The 'C' clip on the reverse lever/arm can be a bit of a pain, a magnetized screwdriver makes removal a bit less tramatic [you can't loose the clip as easy]. There is one loose spring that will come down with the VB, it is pretty visible as you drop the VB, just don't drop it and loose it.

Have a good INCH pound torque wrench, and at least a case or more of ATF+3.

Hope this helps, PM or email me if you wish, but Bill K is the guy to talk with.

You should have a pressure gauge, and test your pressures before and after.

A 0-160 PSI gauge and 12 ft of hose will set you back $30-40, if you really want to get two of them. You will want to measure base line pressure then front servo pressure, (this is done even better with two gages at the same time) your looking for a difference in pressure meaning an internal leak. Base pressure verses O/D pressure can be checked too as well as rear servo. Everytime I make a major change(line pressure/TV spring) I check the hole transmission out(pressures) The 12 ft hose/s allow you to have the gages right in front of you while driving either inside or outside. The install is not bad and your transmission will love it.
