Just in case...
TDC intake 1, 2, 4. Exhaust 1, 3, 5
Rotate crankshaft 360°, align timing gear to 6 O'clock (use socket to turn alternator) then intake 3, 5, 6. Exhaust 2, 4, 6.
FSM shows limit chart @ intake min 0.006" - max 0.015" and exhaust 0.015" - max 0.030. Seems everyone, self included, goes with 10 and 20, engine likes it. Have fun.

On my '01, intake is .010, exhaust is .020. If you have your engine tag is will have the settings.

Aside from 06-07 5.9’s I think those have been the specs on all the Cummins in a Dodge/Ram.

06-07 went to a looser exhaust valve to likely “help” with emissions by having the exhaust valve open shorter. It’s not uncommon to use the .010 and .020 specs on them too thou, or the .008/.018 that @Cummins12V98 mentioned.

Thanks everyone for the replies I am not near this far along yet with the engine building still waiting on the block at the moment I thought I remembered the manual giving a fairly wide range of valve clearance fit the 24 valve
