Where can I find the Fel Pro vlv cvr gasket for a 24 valve 1999 model? I checked with the dealer and they are asking 65 bucks!! Do the dealers just buy the parts on the open market then multiply by 2 or 3 to get their prices???? I was going to check the valves and in case I tore the gasket I wanted to have a new one on hand.

Thanks for your replies.

Check with a cummins dealer. I do not know the cummins number for this item.

I drive one of the under valved models. :D

Philip,

I think you meant to say "properly valved" :D :p

Sorry I can't offer any info on the big single valve cover gasket as I have 6 small ones instead. :D

Hey Sean and Phillip

I also drive one of the "under valved" or "properly valved" trucks. It's my 97 "Sunday go to meetin' or courtin'" truck!!! The 24 vlvr is in my work truck.

I'll try the link and see what comes up. I'll also try to find a Cummins dealer down here to see if they can get it.

Thanks all.

DBoyd,

The generously endowed and valved ISB ;), can use the same valve cover gasket repeatedly. It is metal framed with live rubber in the sealing area. I'd say they are good for dozens of R&R. Larry

Thanks for the info. You've saved me some bucks. I don't think the valves have been checked on this truck and it has 104K on it now and I can kinda hear a little clickin every now and then. Probably just my imagination!!

DBoyd,

My experience has been that the valves clearances only vary slightly but setting them properly does smooth out and quietens our engines. Cummins allows a large tolerance and says anything within tolerance is okay so maybe it's just my imagination. I think you'll be happy when you get them adjusted, good luck. Larry

Dboyd, you can reuse the stock gasket, ive had my valve cover off over 6 times, still dry as when new,and it looks like it will last another 6 times.

FWIW,

You should also be able to reuse the valve cover gaskets on a 12V at least a couple of times with no leaks. I replaced mine about a month ago, but only because they were old and stiff and not sealing so well any more.
