Hi, has anyone changed their own valve cover gaskets. Does an intercooler make a difference in the gaskets. Mine are leaking a small amount on the rear cylinders and have been thinking about doing it myself.

My 93 3/4 ton 4X4 extra cab has a extra transmission cooler under the drivers side rear fender "Does any one know any thing about it such as at what temp. does it come on and how does it work. I couldn't find any thing on it in my manual (from the dealer).

I changed mine the first time I set valves. Get the gaskets and the o-ring (on top around the bolt) at your favorite Cummins parts supplier.

Gaskets are a piece of cake to change. Just make sure all the mating surfaces are clean.

I have the same transmission cooler you have. I don't know at what temp it turns on but mine only comes on when I'm towing or in the mountains with lots of up hill. Sometimes after you stop and turn off the engine it will still be running and shuts off after a minute or so. I also have a cooler in front of the radiator and you should also have one. The fan assisted coolers were a dealer add on from what I could find out about them. Let me know if you ever find out anything else.

The cooler fan will turn on when the transmission fluid temp. reaches 180 degress.
