After Going To The Dealer And Purchasing New Valve Cover Gaskets I Read Not To Use The Gray Ones , But To Get The Black Ones. Why Is This And Where Can I Get The Black Ones And What Is The Part Number.

Supposedly the black ones seal better or something to that effect. I've had grey ones on for the last year and a half, and they seem to be doing just fine, so I wonder if the claim holds water... . sounds like another "oil war" or "transmission war" coming up ;)

i thought the black ones where better if you plan on reinstalling them. i put the grey ones, that cummins sold me, on and have not had any issues. :)

i've got the grey ones from napa as well. the only problem that i can see with them, is that they seem to grow. i've had the tops off a bunch in the last month due a broken valve spring, and each time i go to put them back on, it's a royal PITA.

Cummins people  ! Not a 318. Buy Cummins parts. Cummins only makes the grey ones now. They are reuseable, no silicone needed at all. 15mm bolt, torqued to 18ftlbs.
