I'm thinking about buying some chrome valve covers from dodgeparts.com for about $120. Comes with hardware and gaskets. I'm wanting to do this because my valve covers are leaking alittle bit. Does anyone know if these vc gaskets are available from either a parts store or thru dealer? Not sure if I want all that shiney chrome under the hood or not, or just simply replace the gaskets... Thanks Bill

the paint on my VCs is peeling what Im gona do is take them off strip them & polish the aluminum they should look nice but not too shiney & ofcourse replace the gaskets my. question to you is why are you replacing the valve covers if their leaking replace the gaskets I wouldent replace the valve covers unless they were broken or something

aftermarket gaskets

All three parts stores here stock them. Napa and Carquest stock the Victor-Rienz gaskets and Auto Value stocks the Fel-Pro's. I have installed gaskets from both companies and have not had any problems with either.

I vote for staying with the stock valve covers. Take for what it is worth, my next project won't have ANY chrome on it when I am done with it. Everything that was chrome will be black. It's nice having a powder coating facility a mile down the road, especially when the owner owes you a couple of favors.

If you haven't run the rack on your engine yet you might as well do it while the V/C's are off.

Have fun,

Paul

Just get the gaskets from the local Cummins shop. I got mine when I adjusted my valves and I think that they were ~ $4/piece. They are very top quality gaskets that will last a long time.

If you dont have a Cummins shop nearby, Case tractor and equipment dealers also have B series parts for about the same price as Cummins. The B series is used in Backhoes and some tractors. Valve covers, injector seals, etc are pretty much interchangeable.

Thanks alot for the replies. I'm going to call around and just buy the gaskets. Should I RTV silicone both sides of the gasket once I put them back on?

clean everything real good (no particles on either side of the gaskets) & no silicone unless there are bad surface iregularitys that you think the rubber cant take up but thats unlikley

I havent called Scheid's yet but I will, I've wondered what they can do for me, I've been doing just about everything to this truck myself.

Now if I could only find a mopar tach, I'd be in high heaven!!
