Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Valve Cover Plate

Does this plate have any benefit? I just bought one at the junk yard and am wondering if it has any mechanical purpose like cooling the engine.

I took mine off. I figured it probably disrupted heat dissipation.

At first I thought that it might re-direct the tappet noise, but know I think that it emphasizes it.

You can usually get hard to find screws bolts and plugs at Fastenal. I know after i lost the hex nut for my AFC thats the only place i could find another one for much cheaper than the dealer was asking.
