Maybe so however, the early 24v valve cover ('98. 5/'99) is quite a bit better than the '00+ black valve cover... . to the tune of
THREE POUNDS HEAVIER

The Dodge bean counters really cheesed out when they went to the '00+ black OE valve cover.
Me, I have all three different valve covers... I purchased a black '00 Dodge valve cover from the dealer soon after the '00s hit the streets (I liked the
black color, with the Rams head even though I was just about ready to order a
black Cummins valve cover... oh well, I liked it at the time). As stated by Kat, they list for $180. at your Dodge dealer. Of course my '98. 5 came with the silver/red OE Dodge valve cover, and I finally broke down and purchased a red Cummins valve cover
however, my rendition is far from what everyone has seen

... many hours were spent milling off the raised ribs and lettering and orbital sanding the top surface to produce an extremely flat surface which was then chrome plated to give it a mirrored billet look.

In addition, the remainder of the valve cover was detailed and sanded prior to having the plating experts work their magic.
BTW, the Cummins valve cover for the ISB IS available in either red or black... it has been for several years now.
Here is a breakdown of the various valve cover weights: (to the best of my recollection)
'98. 5/'99 OE silver/red valve cover: 7. 6 lbs.
'00+ OE black valve cover: 4. 2 lbs.
Cummins "red" (or "black") valve cover: 7. 75 lbs.
NOTE: all weights were made by ME with an accurate Chattilion scale
****If anyone is interested, I have a '00+ black OE Dodge valve cover in good condition that is For Sale. I also have a set of '00+ valve cover hold down bolts as well as a spare oil fill cap to go along with it. If interested email me or send me a private message. ****
