I know everyone got the "red" valve covers (3943668) but is the part number for the same cover in black the same? Cummins Great Plains isn't sure. I would prefer to have black vs red for my truck. Has anyone ordered a black one? Price I was quoted was around $118.

Just for grins I checked the "Dodge" valve cover - $180!

Thanks in advance... .

I sure hope someone knows. . I would really like to have a Black or Silver Cummins valve cover... I'm ready to Grind the D word off my cover...

The Red one looks great, but wouldn't look right on my truck...

Someone please respond... .

Thanks Kat, I didn't know they had one out... .

Stock one?

You Want the Black 00-1? cover?? I bought one from a TDR member that had installed a red one. Anything looks better than the one on the early 24v trucks IMHO. Now if I could find some center caps for my 00 wheels that i bought I would have a 2000 Conversion lol. And I could take out my vanity mirrors for an 01 conversion heh

No I am after the "black" one that looks exactly like the red one everyone gets. I heard it was available in black? But the guy at Cummins Great Plains wasn't too interested in looking up parts. Although he did get a part number of a black cover, he ordered and I have to look at it next thursday see if its what I want.

I just checked on the "stock" one for grins.

Anyone actually have a "black" Cummins valve cover?????

Thanks

Mine is Black

KatDiesel,

Mine came with a black valve cover. Is this what you're talking about or are you trying to find one that just says Cummins and not Dodge? Let me know, I can try and locate a part number on the cover if need be?

I'm after the Cummins one. The Red one is part #3943668, but I "think" its available in black as well?? Thats what I am looking for. The one that says Cummins only. (No Dodge)

KatDiesel,

If I remember right, a black Cummins valve cover is available from Cummins. I thought the guys at Cummins Northwest gave me an option when I checked on availability.

I wish they made a Cummins Blue cover! Good luck! -Ken

Kat. . you might try Brandon. . I think I saw a black one in his office... NOT SURE . . worth a shout or E-mail

I know he had a pink one there, but I don't think Danelle would be willing to part with it :)

hhmmm... I was joking a little about grinding off the D word on the valve cover... but now that you bring it up... . I bet it wouldn't be that hard... but polishing it out to shine like my intake, air horn might take me a week... . maybe I could start while it's on the truck... hhmmm... . time to go pop the hood and take a look... :D

Kat, Did they order a cover for you to look at??? When is it supposed to be in???

I don't wanna grind anything off my current valve cover, I have other plans for it.

The ones they ordered are supposed to be here this Thursday, i told him just order it as regular stock, no hurry. So just waiting now.

So there is no confusion... I want this valve cover..... only in black.

Sounds good Kat, We'll all be waiting, if it is correct. . in Black. . I'm going to order one as soon as we hear the word. . I looked at grinding the D word off. . but after looking at the pic of the Red one. . I'll just wait until you get the black one in... Kat, be sure and post a pic for us when U get it in... (Anyone have a pic of one that they ground off the D word... I'm still open for that too. . ) Thanks

Did you ever receive the black Cummins VC? How does it look?

They came in on Friday, but I left for KC Friday as well, I'll be going by there tommorrow after work to look at them. I saw the Cummins number on my caller id so I know they called.

I haven't forgotten :D Just been busy.

Kat,

No worries, can relate to being busy. Sorry to be impatient, just curious... let us know what you see/hear/find out. Thanks, -Ken

Cummins "red" (or "black") valve cover

Maybe so however, the early 24v valve cover ('98. 5/'99) is quite a bit better than the '00+ black valve cover... . to the tune of THREE POUNDS HEAVIER :eek: The Dodge bean counters really cheesed out when they went to the '00+ black OE valve cover.

Me, I have all three different valve covers... I purchased a black '00 Dodge valve cover from the dealer soon after the '00s hit the streets (I liked the black color, with the Rams head even though I was just about ready to order a black Cummins valve cover... oh well, I liked it at the time). As stated by Kat, they list for $180. at your Dodge dealer. Of course my '98. 5 came with the silver/red OE Dodge valve cover, and I finally broke down and purchased a red Cummins valve cover however, my rendition is far from what everyone has seen :D:D... many hours were spent milling off the raised ribs and lettering and orbital sanding the top surface to produce an extremely flat surface which was then chrome plated to give it a mirrored billet look. In addition, the remainder of the valve cover was detailed and sanded prior to having the plating experts work their magic.

BTW, the Cummins valve cover for the ISB IS available in either red or black... it has been for several years now.

Here is a breakdown of the various valve cover weights: (to the best of my recollection)

'98. 5/'99 OE silver/red valve cover: 7. 6 lbs.

'00+ OE black valve cover: 4. 2 lbs.

Cummins "red" (or "black") valve cover: 7. 75 lbs.

NOTE: all weights were made by ME with an accurate Chattilion scale

****If anyone is interested, I have a '00+ black OE Dodge valve cover in good condition that is For Sale. I also have a set of '00+ valve cover hold down bolts as well as a spare oil fill cap to go along with it. If interested email me or send me a private message. ****
