Valve covers - cosmetic

I am looking to dress up under the hood and was wondering if anybody makes valve covers for our trucks and what else is available under the hood.

I think the coolest way to dress it up under the hood is with performance parts... everything else is pointless...



I mean its a new truck... . not a classic car.



Twin turbos, Dual CP3's, GDP 2micron filter and big fuel lines always get way more attention over a painted plactic fake vavle cover cover, or a fancy dip stick...



But hey its your truck and whatever floats your boat. I heard that Bob's Wagner's billet oil cap adds 15 rwhp though...



You could also try ebay. . they sell alot of that kind of crap for the cheesy 1/2 ton hemi crowd.

The only valve covers I have seen are chromed/faux carbon fibre that has been applied to the stock cover. I thought the prices were too high. If anyone knows of a actual aluminum replacement that looks pretty let us know. Overall I agree with the previous post, NOTHING and I mean NOTHING dresses up under the hood like a set of twins with powder coated cold pipes.

You guys are all power nazis, nothing wrong with a little fabricated aluminum to replace a plastic cover, ie... hellmannperformance.com, Big dan, i don't see anything wrong with treating that new expensive truck like a classic car, heck, with the new emissions on everything suddenly it's 1972 all over again, possibly the end of an era.

A while back here, I think someone went and polished up the actual valve cover and it came out looking real good.

x2 buddy. Thats what im telling all my friends. Nows the time to buy!!!!I keep on saying its 1972 all over again. We're not going to be able to get away with anything when it comes time to smog these diesels every 2 years.



Yeah you can do a chip and then remove it but forget about larger turbos, twins, injectors, cp3 mods, injectors.



And end of an era yeah... Classic car status ehhh maybe, pretty stuff under the hood like painted valve covers... ... .

BigDan, Agreed, but a little out of my budget, but if you want to start a fund for twins for me, that would be great, but I do get tired of see the nasty *** valve cover every time you pop the hood.



Vaughn, That looks awesome, really turned out well and doesn't seem too difficult. Looks like I might be heading that route.

I'm not a power Nazi... wait a minute, yes I am. But I too would like to know where/how Vaughn got that cover. I do like pretty also, I just can't see spending 2 or 3 hundred bucks for a fancy paint job on the stock cover, but some fancy aluminum, well thats another story.

Man that guy paid top dollar. If you have a '04. 5 & up you can reuse your V/C bolts. The black valve cover is about $120, I paid $85 for the unpainted one. Valve cover with bolts will run ya about $180-190.



The real trick is rigging the blowby vent. Matt400 (owner of the red valve cover truck) modified his with plumbing out the back end of it and it worked fine (read thread above).



I hated the plastic cover thing so got rid of it and cleaned up my stock V/C. Doesn't look as cool as Matt's though. I was going to make a stainless metal cover for the breather box and put braided ss hose covering over the tubing.

Hey Vaughn,

Only thing is I took it back off cuz the vent must have not been working well.

It has an internal baffle and I think it must be getting blocked from oil turbulence/splash. The exit point was never damp like the OEM is and was causing some oil consumption.



I think the Fleetguard vent on the OEM cover must work much better.

Only thing is slapping that ugly plastic box on top of the nicer looking cover kills the idea.

I couldn't find the one that has 100% Whoop A** on the cover but thats a favorite.

Matt, I wonder about machining a hole on top at the back of the V/C and mounting it back there? I know the hole is cast in though with beefed-up rim.

:-laf I would seriously laugh out load at you if you started putting that Specture fake stainless wrap over your rubber hoses...

I don't think there is enough room for that. When you lift the cover off for removal or install it has to come all the way up against the body to clear the rockers so you couldn't install the cover with it on and I don't think it would fit with it off cuz there is a down tube on the vent that extends into the cover.
