I adjusted my valves on Tuesday. Some of the intake valves were a little bit tight and some of the exhausts were loose. I wish I had measured how far out of spec they were. I used go/ no go feeler gauges to get them as close to spec as possible. I even managed to get the adjustment to #6 done without too much hassle.

What surprised me, is that the truck is running much more smoothly now and seems to be up on power.

What is the point of having a separate valve cover for each cylinder? I like it that way, but I was wondering why. .

My truck ran better after I ran the overhead the first time. They were WAY out of spec on most of the valves. Almost double what they should have been, on a couple.

Why individual valve covers? Good question. Don't know. I like it, too.

valves adjustment

onstottc,

IMO the individual valve covers was for better sealing. The problem of gasket moving was compicated by a large stamped cover. Trying to align the gasket & cover is trying at times. If you seal the gasket then scrape it of, you could drop it in the pan causing more problems.

Early designers like it as well. Look at the Macks or the CATs.

Just a thought.

One of our diesel mechanics said they might be there to assure the each set of valves gets an even amount of lubrication.
