Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) valves out of adjustment??

Is the valves are not adjusted properly would the motor make clicking noises at higher RPMs. I am getting this clicking noise that is not going way. I just started the other night and now i can figure out what it is. It make the same clicking noise at the Injection pump. has anyone experienced this before.
