Can someone post some info on the Cummins/Valvoline Premium Blue and the Premium Blue 2000. Has any tried the Fleetguard Venturi dual filter? I would also like some info on the Power Service Diesel Oil Supplement. What do you think about a fleetguard by-pass system with PB2000 and PS Oil Supplement every 7000 miles?
 
I have been running Valvoline Premium Blue and Fleetguard filters since I got my truck and I am very happy with them. If you are like me and do alot of highway driving, you can go 7,000 miles with no problems. I just sent off an oil sample with 7,000+ miles on it to check it out. I was doing 6,000 and the sample came back showing no wear meatal. (that's why I went to 7,000). If you like I can post my oil analyst data when I get it.
 
I ran PB2000 in my 98 and have run it in my 01 ETH since 10K. I like the semisynthetic properties (25% synthetic) and Michael is right on the wear. I think it's a good oil. I've always liked Valvoline and since the PB2000 was designed to Cummins Specs and tested thoroughly by Cummins, I think it's a good choice.
 
Either Valvoline product should be fine for normal drain intervals (i. e. 7. 5K). But if you plan to get full value from a by-pass system, you should go to a full synthetic for extended drains. While the PB2000 provides some of the advantages of a synthetic (better flow properties, lower engine deposits), the conventional component of semi-synthetics oxidizes just as quickly as with a regular oil. The additive package should also be fortified for extended drain intervals. Delvac, Amsoil, Royal Purple, and Redline market synthetic oils that are designed for longer drain intervals. LE and Scheaffer sell fortified conventional based oils that are specifically marketed for extended drains. Just remember that the whole bypass filter/extended drain principle was developed for OTR trucks. Oils do not hold up nearly as well in a daily ride that is used for short trips regardless of the oil base and filtration system that is used.
 
I am not really in for the extended drain intervals, I would go for peace of mind. The new Venturi system by Fleetguard seems good, A stacked disk with low pressure filtration then through a second Stratapore filter at low pressure for full filtration alon with a stratapore full flow filter seems to be good for me. Has anyone used the Power Service Diesel Oil Supplement, it seems to me like and extra additive package, can't hurt anything right. Which one is better, Standadyne (sp)(performance) or Power Service Diesel Fuel Conditioner(diesel kleen)?
 
There are 2 different Power Service products: Diesel Kleen (silver bottle) and Power Service Diesel Supplement (white bottle). There have been many recent posts on Fred's TDI board that have compared the 2 products. Both are similar except that Diesel Kleen contains more cetane booster and Diesel Supplement contains an anti-gel agent for winter use. You can use either one year round with every tank of fuel if you like. I've used both products and also the fuel additive that Cummins sells. They all work well. The effect that you notice right away is a smoother and quieter running engine with less clatter and injection pump thud. This is because among other things, the additives improve the lubricity of the fuel. I now use Diesel Kleen year round since gelling is not a problem where I live. The increased cetane really does improves performance where the fuel is of poor quality (like most places in the US and Canada) and there is less smoke. I have not recorded any difference in mileage, however. Power Service products are inexpensive and are available at most truckstops and Walmarts.



Unlike passenger car diesels which are designed to run on higher quality European fuel, the Cummins will run fine on almost any fuel. You don’t really need to use an additive. But you will notice a difference in performance, particularly in the winter, and the improved detergency and lubricity should extend the life of engine parts that are lubricated by the fuel. I have not tried Stanadyne, but I imagine that the product would be similar to Diesel Kleen based on the specifications.
 
Good post, Lee. I use the Stanadyne Performance (Blue bottle) for one reason. The local Bosch pump shop and turbo rebuilder drives a Ram 3500 CTD. He uses and recommended the Stanadyne. He's done work for me and I know how meticulous and careful his shop is. They have an excellent reputation and so I trust him at knowing the good stuff. Lee is right on the engine sound. The additive quietens down the pump quite a bit. I've never used the other additive he mentioned so I can't comment on it. The Bosch shop guy said to use additive because of the protection it provides to the internal VP44. The extra mileage from the cetane boost is a bonus that I like, too.
 
Jacob82, Tell me more about this Venturi filter system. Is it a single filter replacing the current oil filter or a dual filter system of some type? Can you get it through Cummins like the regular Stratapore? Inquiring minds want to know.
 
The only thing I can figure out is that , I think it is a bypass system, it is a low pressure system in which you have a regular stratapore filter on bottom and a stacked disc filtration on top, Cummins has designed it for a low pressure with a venturi like valves or something. It is new for the ESI products- extended service intervas. They also have a new fuel filter that sounds pretty good. I am leaving now and I hope the Cummins shop nera my house is still open to see if I can get some more info.
 
Sorry, but Fleetguard doesn't sell or intend to make the Venturi filters for the 5. 9 Cummins. Interestingly, they said that Cummins did not design this engine for any type of bypass filter. Hmmm!?
 
There are many things out there that don't belong or aren't enginnered for the ISB, but we still put them on. Anyone in the Round Rock area, the Southern Plains Power was very dissapointing, they are only a generator shop, no truck engines wanted.

my 2cents..... I've just changed my fluids in the engine (and transmission) with Valvolene as recommended by Cummins Europe and, so far have been very happy, but I don't have any empirical data to back it up with yet. All the big, commerical trucks use it over here in their (bigger:D ) Cummins engines and no one's got a bad word for it.
