Has anybody been using the Valvoline Synpower power steering fluid in their trucks? It looks like a good product but who knows? only the experienced guy's I'm sure. The bottle says that it meets the Chrysler spec. 5931. I like synthetics but don't have a clue about this one. Wild Bill E -- email address removed --.

Valvoline Synpower power steering fluid is the only way to go. Eliminates cold weather squeal and is compatible with the OEM fluid - no need to get all the old stuff out. Just get as much out of the reservoir as possible with a suction gun or turkey baster, refill with Synpower and drive. After three drains/refills, one qt, you will have almost 100% new fluid.

Ditto

I've been using it for about a year. Never drained all the old, just suck out as much as possible and top it off every 6mos when I collect an engine oil sample to send in for analysis and change the oil filter. The Valvoline stuff has not caused any problems like leaks or incompatiblity with the OEM stuff that I have noticed. And like mentioned it quites the PS pump down in the winter months. Just be aware that if you use the turkey baster method and suck the old fluid from the PS pump and refill, you might get some air in the system which is noticed by a very hard to turn steering wheel. Fast idling the engine for a few minutes when this happens seems to work the air out for me anyway.

PS: instead of a turkey baster I use a Mighty Vac pump I purchased for brake bleeding. It works really well, the small diameter tubing is able to fit pretty far down into thte PS pump reservoir and allows me suck out around 10-12 oz of fluid.

I RUN IT IN ALL MY VEHICLES!

As a former Auto Crosser, I put my car and power steering fluid through the ringer, think low speed (sub85mph) closed courses lined with cones, one car vs. the clock. Lots of turning, braking and heat.

I initially ran Redline Pwr steering fluid but found that it would go away in less than one year's time and the pwr steering in my '97 1LE camaro would whine. I switched to Synpower which was less expensive for me, and it would go an entire yr. w/o the pump getting noisey. (I flush all my vehicles PWRSTR'n 1/yr. ) Worked great in my race car, lasted longer than the redline and didn't weap passed the seals on my rack and pinion the way the redline did.

Synpower's in all my vehicles now.

My PS pump has just started leaking....

I have had Synpower in it for over a year. I just ordered the Lucas Power Steering stop leak fluid today & will give it a try. Whadda I have to lose? It says guaranteed to stop leaks or your $$ back. Sure would beat having to pay for a new PS pump if it does the job!:D :D
