How much transmission do I need

I've got a VA C-3. 2 on my '03, HO, 6-sp. I like it.

I did some before/after tests in fifth gear (direct drive) 40-65 mph, full throttle. On the High Level, it was 3 seconds faster. Actually, it's quite noticable when you're driving it. I'm very happy.

Also, improved fuel economy (if you can keep your foot out of it).

If you have an exhaust system, you will notice a bit different exhaust note. A bit louder & more powerful sounding.

The box has 3 settings. Stock, 65 HP & 130 HP (at the rear wheels, I've been told by VA).

Do the "Tone Ring Mod" & you will have a nice duration & timing mod.

Got mine at Texas Diesel Power.com (1-817-578-3223).

I have towed my 7000+ lb. trailer in both the 65 & 130 HP levels & was surprised that the EGT's were not high, at all. At the 130HP level, they never got into the dangerzone but, I didn't "floor-it" to high speed levels, either.

From the rumors I'd heard, I expected dangerously high EGT's & was surprised at how reasonable they were. I suppose if you were pulling a lot of weight up some of the high passes in Colorado, you might see the high EGT's.

I did add some timing with the Tone Ring Mod.

bringing this post back to life, any more input? i have one in the mail for me... will be looking into the tone ring mode vice the Roktech sensor mods... maybe the same? i dunno, but i will in a few.

thanks

I'm just about ready to buy some HP. This is the box I've been looking in to. I will need some help with the tone ring mod though.

yeah, i read up on the tone ring mod and will be doing that today i HOPE. i need to get the serp belt tool to make things easier, but will do that today.

I have a 3. 2 on my 03 HO. It does provide a good power increase and smoke if you want. It does however create high egts. Even with my HTB2 I still can push the limit while empty. The tone ring mod lowered my egts by aproximately 150 degrees. Overall I am happy with it.

Serpentine Belt tool

GWBourne,

If you are referring to the tool used to loosen the tension on the belt tensioner, all you need is a 1/2" ratchet (possibly a 3/8 drive. Don't remember, for sure, now. ) to move the belt tensioner over enough to slip off the belt. It's easy & doesn't require a special tool.

Don't be too afraid of doing the Tone Ring Mod. I'm, somewhat, "mechanically challenged" & was able to do it fairly easily.

If you didn't want to tackle the tone ring mod, you could get the Rokktech crank position sensor. You simply exchange the sensors and you have got the 2* timing advance.

Also it is easy to change back if for some reason you dont like it. I chose the sensor just in case I had to take it in for service. That way I could put the old one back on and the timing would be in "stock" form. I'm not sure if it would make a difference or not. I can turn off my boxes, but not sure I would be able to get the tone ring back to true stock.
