Hey guys, I have a stock '00 ETC 5 speed and want to up the power a little. Nothing vulgar or obscene, just a nice little power increase. I do not tow or haul anything, mainly drive back and forth to work on rural highways. Also take it on vacations to where ever with just camping gear or suit cases in back. Was wondering what your input is on the Van Aaken or the Ez boxes. Do they put much strain on the fuel pump? Who makes the EZ? Any input at all would be appreciated. Thanks. Great site btw. Tried doing a search on the subject but couldn't come up with anything conclusive.
Also have a Jardine 4" exhaust ordered.

Bill, I don't know if your truck is under warranty, or not... or if you even give a care... but the VA plugs into the fuel pump and you have to remove the seal to do that. . no biggie, where as, the Power Edge EZ does the sme thing, but plugs into the map sensor... one thing, once you've been bitten by the BUG, theres no stoppin'

I have 35,000 miles on my truck. I'm a little concerned about warranty that's why I was wanting to go with a mild upgrade. Plus I don't need all the power of full "bombing", nor the money to spend on it. Should have also mentioned I would like to keep close to the fuel mileage getting now. Also, I thought the "seals" were on the newer trucks. Can't say for sure about mine as I haven't looked. Mine was built Sept. /Oct. of '99.

Bill,
You might not have the seal, not sure, I do know the EZ goes on and off in about 45 seconds... It take longer than that to get the milk carton to stand on... BTW, DTT has a sale on the EZ. . as far as mileage, I'm getting the same if I stay on the gas (diesel?)he,he,and somewhat better if I drive it kinda' normal... ...

I have run a VA for over a year. First on my 2000 ETC and then on my 2001 ETH. My 2000 ETC needed all the help it could get. The VA was a wonderful improvement. I think you would be well pleased with either unit. I picked up about 10% increase in fuel mileage with the VA. One of the things I am very aware of is the warranty thing. Either unit comes of very quickly with the EZ requiring a little more gymnastics than the VA. I am currantly trying an EZ and am well pleased with it also. Which one is best? Your choice. In either case, either one is probably the best SINGLE plug in enhancement on the market today. I really wish you would also consider a set of guages and a 4" exhaust turbo back.

Bill, the VA gives you alot more low end power. If you are doing alot of pulling and like to run the lower rpm, the VA will do the job. The downfall is you may need some more boost via another box.

Thanks for the replies guys. Sounds like VA may be the right choice, although couldn't go wrong with either.

No complaints here with mine, great fuel mileage, only towed once. International tractor on a flatbed trailer. Seemed to do ok, this is my first diesel so nothing to compare to. Had some pretty good hills in south central Indiana, brother was sure impressed. As far as guages, nothing yet. 4" Jardine exhaust was ordered last monday.

You mentioned more boost... . can you elaborate a little more please. Sorry for being diesel(mechanically) illiterate. The VA quits at 2000rpm? So what, if anything happens if I go above 2000rpm say running on interstate for prolong periods?
Sorry for the long post. Thanks again everyone for replying.
Bill

One again nobody is saying anything about the Diablo Power Puck. Sure would like to here from somebody who has tried one. Sounds just like the VA but for less.

Bill, the VA DOES NOT quit at 2000 RPM. It will add power very nicely across the range. You do not need a boost module to run a VA, although you may get a little more power with one. A pyrometer will be necessary if you tow and add ANY mods. You will end up with one at some point so I would suggest you go ahead and add it also.

Thanks CannonBall and LSMITH for clearing things up a little.

I have read a little about Power Puck, but have heard any reports from anyone trying it. Maybe too new yet??

Thanks again everybody for your input.
Bill

Bill, If you go with the va you need to get a boost module and elbow to go with it. You get more bang for the bucks and the set up works great for pulling.
