Quite a few people have been having problems with logging into the forums and it seemed to have gotten worse recently. This is something that myself and many other webmasters have been talking to vBulletin about for months. With the post today I looked at the support site to see if anything new had been found on the problem and lo and behold vBulletin released version 2. 2. 7 (we were on 2. 2. 6) on August 27th (the day I was in the hospital having surgery on my shoulder by coincidence). According to them this should fix the majority of login problems and at least for some webmasters it seems to have.

I installed the new version this afternoon. It took me a few hours because I had to transfer all of the hacks that I had installed on version 2. 2. 6 over to 2. 2. 7 and during the upgrade the forums were down from approximately 4:50-4:55 pm eastern - sorry for any inconvenience. Please let me know if you run into any bugs or problems.

If you have a login problem please try to manually remove your cookies and relogin before you post a problem. You may have corrupted cookies that are causing the problem. Here are the instructions on how to do that:

Here are the instructions for Internet Explorer 5 on Windows:

Close all Internet Explorer windows.

Click the "Start" button.

Move upto "Find" and click "Files or Folders" from the menu that appears.

In the new window that appears, in the "containing text" field, type in the domain name of the board without the "http://" or "www." part. For example, if the board's address was "http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/index.php", I would type in "vbulletin.com" (without the quotes)

In the "look in" box, type in "C:\Windows\Cookies\" (without the quotes) and press "Find Now"

After it has finished searching, highlight all files (click a file, then press CRTL+A) and delete them (press the "delete" key or SHIFT+DEL)

Your cookies should now be removed. You may want to restart the computer and revisit the board to be sure.

The files you will want to delete are any with turbodieselregister.com tdr1.com or 216. 235. 147. 117 on them.

Steve since the update it seems about every 10 minutes it seems to run very very slow. It will be fine and then it will take forever for a post or thread to come up. It was fine before :(

It seems that there was something wrong with the new software. It brought the server to it's knees around the time frame that you posted and crashed it. I had to reboot the server to get it back up and running. I have rolled the software back to the 2. 2. 6 version for now. I'm sending an email to vBulletin's tech support right now.

Thanks for all the work Steve. I don't know much about servers and was wondering if you had to relocate to deal with them or are most of your manipulations done from a distance?

I do basically everything remotely from here in Michigan. We have a FreeBSD consultant in the Atlanta area that deals with the few things that have to be done directly there (such as installing the servers, etc). I am going to be flying down to Atlanta on wednesday to visit with the TDR staff, visit the co-location facility to talk about a few things we'd like changed, etc. But this will be the first time I've gone to Atlanta.

I redid the 2. 2. 7 upgrade today, so far it seems to be working fine - I must have made a typo when adding the hacks to the new version of the software. If you have any problems please email me at -- email address removed -- .

Only problem I've had is finding a button to click when I want to post a new question, comment or begin a new thread. There doesn't appear to be such a button.

You clicked on the button to post a reply when you posted that message. Right next to that there is a button that says "Post New Topic" - click on that to start a new thread. You have to be in a forum to post a new topic and in a thread to reply to a thread. If you are at the thread list inside of a forum there is a button in the upper right that says "Post New Topic". If you are talking about someplace else let me know where you are talking about.

Posting issues

Oh ... OK, I see it now. It's a different looking button. I was looking for a button on the "edit" line, etc. Thanks ...

Thanks for all the work Steve. By the way, I noticed a while back that my post count dropped by about a third. Why is that?
