I'm in the process of ordering gauges and have settled on VDO brand . Can anyone help me with the right EGT probe part number? I remember reading -but can't find the post - that there are 2 different ones .

Thanks

The pyro probe comes with the gauge:

310-153 VDO Vision Gauge, Pyrometer/Sender Kit

Tell them that you want the 1/4" NPT thread.

I bought an additional sender and had one before and after the turbo. The part number for the sender is 323 892. It was $39 from Summit.

The sender 323-890 is supposed to be faster responding than the 323-892. This information is from a return email I received from VDO after asking the same question. The 310-153 kit includes a 323-892, but I see listed on the egauges website that they include sender 323-890.

Do you know what the difference is in terms of the length of the probe? The one I have that came with my VDO kit is fairly good size and seems too big to use in the manifold. It is also VERY slow. Trying to figure out if the 323-890 is the smaller of the two.

Also, anyone know which type of switch to use with a two probe setup??

Thanks.

I just received 2 emails from VDO, both from a different individual. I thought I ask them the question again.

Here is what one guy had to say:
"The difference is in the packaging. The thermocouple unit is the same. "

He is wrong! After I post the pics you will see for yourself that the units are not alike.

The other email didn't even address the question I asked. I'm waiting for another reply.

Pics are on their way.

Great pics! I am planning to replace my current post-turbo probe with the smaller one AND add the smaller one pre-turbo as well. Hopefully that will fix the SLOW response time that I am currently experiencing with the bigger probe. I guess I need to look for a nice switch now. Thanks!

IMO the large probe post turbo is fine. The post turbo probe is mainly for shutdown anyway, so if it is a few seconds (I'm guessing here at maybe 1-3 seconds) slower it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Pre turbo is where it counts, so the instant response time is necessary there, and hence, the smaller probe.

Edit: BTW you can get the 323-890 at Summit for ~$32.

Thanks for the info Ryan, I'm going to have to buy new gauges for the new truck and will get a extra 323 890 to use pre-turbo. Now all we need are some 0-50psi boost gauges and a vision fuel pressure gauge.
