OK, I put the 205 on the truck yesterday and it idles fine. It hesitates though at the lower end and clears up at the top end. I don't think I have the timing right. It may be too far advanced or not enough. Any thoughts on which way I should go with this? The pump that I installed had no mark so I marked it before I unpinned it, to the mark that was on the block.

I understand the hesitation on the bottom end, but what exactly clears up on the top end? Running? smoke? How close is the AFC housing to the head? This is by no means an end all measurement, but I can get my index finger up to my nail between the two, but it is kinda tight. WHat kind, if any, smoke are you seeing upon acceleration? Does it rattle, have any sluggishness, then seem to catch up suddenly when it hits a certain RPM? How does it compare to the old pump? Do the RPMs come up smoothly when sitting in neutral, or does it sputter some? It could be something as simple as a small leak somewhere letting air into the system, too.

In response, I have really light smoke at idle but heavy smoke at hesitation, and clears up at the top end. I'll check on how close the AFC housing is to the head since it is not running and I had to go to the other house to use the computer. Upon acceleration, the smoke is heavy and dark. I don't hear any rattling, seems sluggish at the lower end and about mid range it smooths out. The old pump ran smooth all the way through from bottom to top and the only reason I changed it was due to a leak. The RPMs sputter when sitting in neutral. I'll check for any air leaks. Is there any easy way to check for air leaks? I could use all the help possible. Thanks

With the smoke, possible injector or pump internal not up to snuff. Was this a new or rebuilt pump? It still sounds more like a fuelling/ pump issue than timing.
