Hello Guys I Am Not A 1st Gen Owner Myself, But My Q Comes From A Good Friend Of Mine That Has A 92 Reg Cab 4x4 5 Speed.

What He Wants To Know Is-is It Worth Changing Over To A P-7100 Pump When He Upgrades His Cylinder Head To A 97 Model Or Get One Of The Big Makers Hot Rod Ve Pumps? He Already Has Scheid Injectors, Super B Turbo, Pulse Man. ,4" Exhaust, 5" Stacks, Gauges Etc. .

The Cost Of A Used P-pump Conversion And The Hot Rod Ve Are Going To Be About The Same Price He Just Wants To Know If It Is Worth It?

He Dynoed Last Summer At Rockingham Dragway And It Only Made 210 Hp On The Above Mentioned Setup Adn He Wants More!!

Thanks In Advance,

Mike Rector

In the HP catagory I am box stock so consider my comments as opinion only. The VE will push plenty of fuel (certainly can be made to do so) and from the comments of those in the first gen group, it is quite possible to get all the engine is capable of with the VE with rather simple mods that have been discussed here. Things that seem to be minor $$$ in the greater scheme of things. Just pick your poison. The major point that I like about the VE style pump is the fact that every stroke of the pump is done by the same plunger which will be consistent to all cylinders. Others will point out that this causes the single plunger to work big time to get the job done.

I am putting some miles on a 97 (P pump) and it has never started with the instant running of a first gen.

I would stay with the VE.

If he does`nt want to go higher than say 5or600 HP`s there is really no reason to swap. And VE`s have dynamic timing where a P-pump is fixed.

Thanks For Your Replies--so He Should Go Ahead With The 97 Head Swap? Cause Ive Read Here That The 1st Gen Head Is What Restricts Major Hp #'s.

I Believe He Is Leaning More Toward The Ve Pump Upgrade Anyway.

Id Like To Hear More Responses If Anyone Has Any More Feedback On This Subject--thanks Again!

I vote for a VE. I dyno'd in at 213. 0 at piers last fall, with only 1. 5 turns on full fuel and stock timing with stock intake, and 3" glasspack exhuast, 3200 gsk, fuel pin turned to max, 16 cm housing on stock non i/c turbo and everything else stock... sounds like something is up with your buddies truck with all the other mods he has he should be making much more power.
