perspective on oil prices...

Anyone been here? My girlfriend and I took a day trip up there yesterday. She visited years ago and decided it would be a good place to see. We went up I-25 to Fort Collins, then up 287 to Laramie. Beautiful drive. We then ate Godfather's pizza and boogied out on I-80 20 miles east to Vedauwoo. Very cool. Lovely scenery, and motorcycles/ATVs abound.

In order to ride my bike I am getting, a license and registration will suffice, correct? But for ATVs and dirt bikes I will need an OHV (off-highway vehicle) or ORV (off-road vehicle) permit. They are used for BLM riding.

Any ideas where to get them? My girlfriend and I may head up there this summer after I get my bike and get the ATV fixed, and take a weekend to go camping/riding.

Thanks!

Nick

As far as I know, a Colorado State OHV Licence is valid out of state, just as is any other licence. I have never been bothered anyway. You can get them down at the main state parks office. It is just south of C-470 on US-85/ Santa Fe Dr. The cost is somewhere around $30 or so for an ATV. They print you a temporary permit, and the stickers come in the mail a few weeks later.

Don't know anything about the licensing, but was stationed in Cheyenne, WY. That whole area west of there is gorgeous. Can't wait to take my bike, atvs and family up there either. Would be fun to go there during Frontier Days and spend time between the city and the mountains.

Congratulations! You've found my Secret Proving Grounds for suspension mods:)

There are a lot of trails and it makes for some fun off-roading (have to be careful with the Michelins though)

There's also fishing out there at Curt Gowdy state park.

If you remember TDR member GiesJ he was from Laramie, and he tested is King-equipped KORE suspension out there. *UNREAL* was what he said-- like the road was bladed or something.

I like to go out there and goof off, go fishing, have a little picnic, or maybe just spend some time with God in his awesome creation. I love living 30 minutes away from it:cool:

Very pretty area! Hohn, I will have to say hi when we come up, maybe you can stop by. When I make more detailed plans I will post a thread about it.

Went to school in Laramie... ... drank a lot of beer up there. :-laf

It's a pretty area.

Same here. Almost every weekend was spent up around the Happy Jack area, made a little bit of $$$ and got lots of free beer for pulling out people.

EDIT: If you are looking for another decent area to drive throgh, head north out of Laramie on 9th street/Rodger Canyon Road, it is a little narrow at places, but the scenery is pretty decent.

We trailer horses up there for a quick getaway. We usually ride up around North Crow res (off trail) or go up on the Headquaters trail head, both are no-motorized vehicle areas. It's nice to get away from you noise makers! :-laf Maybe we could do a camp weekend up there, bring the dirtbikes, trucks, horses and whatnot sometime this summer. Member Wyosteve lives right at the base of them mountains on the Cheyenne side.

I've been trying to find a good place to go camping/exploring this summer. That sounds like the ticket! I'll be in TX for the summer, but if i can swing it, was wanting a road trip. I might just make up there this summer. I'll have to holler at some of ya'll if i can pull it off. Oo.

This months issue of Climbing magazine features Vedauwoo - even on the cover ;)

Plus, Lynn Hill is going to be giving a climbing clinic there this spring. Oo. She is one talented climber - First female OR MALE climber to free the Nose (Yosemite) in a day. Plus, she is a beauty - but I haven't noticed :-laf

Nice to see another climber on board. (Disclaimer: I'm not very good. ) I was thinking about going to the Lynn Hill crack camp there. If anything, it'd be fun to watch someone that talented make the off width look easy.

Vedauwoo is a nice place to get away. Last time I was there I saw someone sink their truck in the mud. The guy was buried past his hood! The ground just sort of gave away. Nothing looked soft at all. They had three trucks chained together trying to pull him out. I took off because I didn't want to see what would happen if one of the chains broke.
