Does anyone know which wire is the VSS. This is the last wire I need to hook up my Magellan Pathmaster GPS. I tried what I thought was the correct wire coming off of the transmission sensor and it fried my PCM. My truck is a 97 manufactured in august 1996.

On my 1999 (may not be the same in '97) the wire from the speed sensor at the rear differential is a red with violet tracer and is found coming into the CAB (anti-lock brake contoller) on the driver's side of the engine compartment at a large electrical connector going into an electronics box tied in with the brake lines. The wire going from the CAB going to the PCM (power train control module - don't know if they used this in '97) is a white with orange tracer and runs the electronic speedometer. Hope this helps. Probably need someone with a 1997 manual to be sure.

Curious, wonder why a GPS would need a speed sensor feed as the ones I've used calculate speed based on input from the satellites?

Welcome to the TDR!! Where ya from?

Thanks for the info. I think I tried that wire and it caused me the problem with the PCM. It's an older GPS that I transferred from another vehicle. It needs a speed sensor hookup to compare vehicle speed with satellite data. I think I might just buy a newer model that doesn't need any hookups.

Work2much,

Thanks for the welcome message. I've actually been a member for a year, been away for a bit, and then had to re-register for the new format. How did you get the Texas flag on your post? I'm an Idiot when it comes to things like that. BTW, I live near Annapolis, Maryland.
