reese 15k problems

Need any towing around Houston??

3500 wieghs 8350 pounds

My 2001 3500 HO wieghts 8350# with 4 people (650 #), full fuel tank and the 5er hitch (Reese 20K) installed.

My 2500 Auto wieghed 7700# with the same people and a 15K lil rocker hitch and a 1/2 tank of fuel.

I would say there is about 5-600 pounds differance between the 2 trucks the way I have them outfitted.

While I am not happy with my weight, I do not think it unusual.

I have a 29' Artic Fox fiver----not a large fiver as they go with many out there well over 30', and some up to around 40'. A guy up the road from me has an 84 Ford with a power stroke grafted into it and tows a 40' Royals International--that thing has got to have a gross of around 25K

I gross 19. 5K +or-, depending on the load. Of that 10K is on the truck.

As I say, not happy with this and didn't realize it was going to be that heavy, but as you run down the highway, you will meet many that are heavier. Seems to me you are not very heavy at all.

At the 1997 TDR gathering in Misquite, there was a fellow there with I think an early 80's Chevy, into which he had grafterd a Cummins 5. 9. , followed by two manual trannys, for somewhere around 10 speeds. He hauled equipment on a huge goose neck, and I heard him tell someone that one of his loads grossed 54K. Don't think I would recommend that.

Well here it is. Took my rig over to a "CAT" scale yesterday with a full tank of fuel and "nothing" in it except what it came with off the show room floor. [See signature for the 2001 2500 24v]

Front = 3740

Rear = 2480

Total = 6220

I was almost sure that this rig would weigh in more than this!

My "2001 Dodge Ram Camper Application" Spec sheet lists the following for the 2500/155 4X2 5. 9L Diesel Quad (8. 0' Box) with A/C, no fuel tank option and a step bumper as:

8800 GVWR, included a 1483 CWR (Cargo Weight Rating)

So,... My truck@6220 plus the CWR@1483 = 7703, still leaves me 1097 Lb. s for add on's, me, wife, beer, ice, a bottle of wine and a couple of maps.

ps,. . I think I'll hit another scale, just to verify a consistent reading. Also if you do not have this CWR spec, I can look up yours and pass on. I picked my 2001 Dodge Ram Camper Application spec sheet up at the dealer.

CWR for this application is the maximum recommeded weight for slide in campers or related equipment. The booklet I picked up gives max weights and how to calculate placement of slide in campers. [Center of Gravity Zones, etc. . ]

For my 2500, 155" wheel base the max is 1483 lb. s

A friend of mine has a 3500/155 4X4 5. 9L Quad 8' Box with a CWR of 2945# and purchased a ~4000 lb. slide in camper. The camper dealership said, "Oh that truck can handle the load". Well my friend bought it [before reading the application guide]and also tows a Jeep Wrangler behind it. Complaining about pulling the infamous California I-5 Grapevine Grade, south to north, at a slow speed, we began this thread on weight related issues.

Now that I have a new rig, with the intention to add-on, I thought it would be prudent for me to investigate weight ratings.

Heavy subject,
