'49 Pontiac straight 8.
This sucker must have had 1/8" of black paint on it from the factory. It was cool looking!
Hydromatic, I belive.
In '63 I paid $100 for it and junked it 3 years later... I had to put a battery in it. .

NO, but the monza would be NICE!!! Use to race em in HI (SCCA). We also had 2 V8's and vans (orig camper) to "play" with. Could change a clutch in 40 min or less (1 person) in the "Good OLE Days".

There used to be a rebuilder in the "mid-west" and they had a catalog for them. Ifn I find out I still have my 'vair stuff, would you be interested??

My first new car, 69 Camaro Z28. Sold it in 1974. The car stayed local and I got it back in 1994. It still runs great. Am I lucky, or what? I have 14 and 16 year old sons and they're begging me to let them drive it. Right now it's parked in the garage and uninsured, but we get it out every now and then and just listen to it. It will wind to 6500 rpm no problem. It is a torque monster. Cannot aford insurance for my boys to drive it. That's probably good.

Ninearrow, great story on your Z, we may have to meet somewhere and let the Duster and Z get acquainted. The Duster is pretty much stock, should go mid 13teens. I've got 14 and 16 year old boys also. One day a couple of years ago we took the Duster out for the day, after running through 1st, 2nd and 3rd, (gotta really work to stay straight in 2nd, and 3rd) they both said "Daddy, do it again". After the example I've set, there's no way they'll get the keys untill they are at least 30, no make that 40, or prehaps 50 years old.

I had a 57 Chevy Belair 4 door hardtop with a stock 327 that could blow the doors off most cars from a 30mph rolling start. My first car was a 55 Buick Special 2 door hardtop (9 years old) that was absolutely mint. Everything worked including the clock and map light. It had a one speed automatic and could hit over 140mph. Wish I could have kept it but I went into the Air Force and had no place to park it while I was gone.

then was my 68 camaro and my 2001 3500 should of never sold that truck it was my baby. I spent over 25K on toys and anything I could fine for that truck

Kinda in review since I started this post woe those many years ago. I drove the Duster (1970) to a construction project I was involved with in Hot Springs Ar this summer. We had the two center lanes on a four lane (the only through street in downtown) coned off and parked like it was our private parking lot.



It was with pride and a little remorse that I watched Dads and 10 year old kids taking pictures while standing next to the Duster. These things used to be so common that 's it's a little strange to see em treated like touch stones to our youth.

1. 1956 Ford Fairlane Club Sedan 292 4V automatic (my first car)



2. 1965 Mustang with built-up 289, 4-speed, 9" Ford rear end (went through college with that one - sold at 120,000 miles for $900 )



3. 1970 Mercury Cyclone GT 351C-4V with all the options (my wife loved that car and wants to find a restored one to buy)



4. 1962 Ford Falcon Ranchero - swapped a built 289, 4-speed and 9" Ford rear end into that one - sold it to a kid down the street to be his first car



5. 1983 Volvo 245 Turbo Wagon - 4-speed with electric overdrive (a better car at 80,000 miles than most new ones I've owned)



6. When I was a kid, Dad had a 1953 Studebaker Commander V-8 Starlight Coupe (the Raymond Loewy-designed body that was used on the Studebaker Hawks). It was nabbed up within 30 minutes by a Dallas collector when Dad traded it for a new 1956 Ford.

'72 Buick Gran Sport Stage I 455 factory high performance.



I've been told it was the fastest production car made that year. I bought it before ever driving it in '79 with 90,000 miles. Would still squeal the tires when the auto transmission shifted from 1st to 2nd. Had custom paint job sprayed on and hush mufflers. Only mechanical work was replacing the timing chain. Sold it in '84 to the guy I bought it from for the same price he sold it to me. Now it would be worth 12 - 15 times that amount.



The best part was all the stop light races. Everybody laughed 'cause it was a Buick til they were staring at my tail lights!
