vent cover

some how, some where the metal vent cover blew off my race car trailer. I went to my local RV parts store and purchased a cover. I went on top of my trailer to put it on, but I think that there are some pieces missing. The cover fits into the crank mechanism just fine, but what holds the hinge portion of the lid to the opening? It looks like there was some kind of sheet metal fasteners there at one time, but were probably torn off when the vent cover flew off in the wind. Do I now have to replace the whole vent opening? I have owned this trailer for 8 months and never opened the vent except when I first purchased the trailer.

There are at least three different vent lids. Possibly, you do not have the correct one to mate up to the vent flashing.

hey, thanks, but I checked that out. I have another vent on the trailer and compared the hinge on it to the one I purchased. same thing. I just don't know what is supposed to be on the opening that mates up to the flange on the cap that keeps it from blowing off. With the luck I had with the first one, I didn't dare pull the second one apart. I hate people who leave trash in the back of their pickups, only to blow out and on the road. I really hope that the cap I lost didn't cause any damage to anyone elses vehicle.
